Yeah TBH my knowledge regarding this is not even limited, it is below that lol. But interesting stuff indeed.

Up your game then..

I reckon you propose a UCS kit for these guys, they will thank you in the long run :p

Always a pleasure..

storage is one of those black arts at the end of the day..

you can go as bonkers and complicated as you want, with mirroring between SANS and sites and all sorts, or simple with bog standard storage solutions...

Hey Crystalweb,Do you offer any trial accounts?i would like to try your uncapped package.

Cheers

Ahhh multiple cameras.. ok, then 25gbs it is.. :)

so scratch my last suggestion...

If you are wanting that volume of data storage, you guys are going to have to think outside the box really... any commercial solution is going to blow the budget probably.

Sorry I haven't been following the thread.

Couple Questions :

1. Do you work on a star system or what is the arrangment on the uncapped accounts? I download more than I stream.
2. Pro-Rated billing. Remember a while back this was still being investigated. Possible now?
3. News Server still available?
4. Are there any issues with YouTube or Gaming at this current moment in time?

I was offered a trial account that is valid for 2 hours?seriously?I am not even close to leaving work anytime soon.

Did you let the agent know? Because they'll then make it available to you a little later instead if you tell them that.

It is fine dude.I cant test much in 2 hours anyway and i am not a data hog.I would have settled for 12 hours

2 weeks was a thumbsuck :)....

I was also wondering why the footage needs to remain in its raw format?

May even a better idea, have 2 systems.. one that backs up the raw video to tape to be stored onsite and offsite (might be necessary from some legal reason), and then a storage solution that takes the raw footage and compresses it with a decent codec of some form, Reckon you could get 25GB per hour down to 3 or 4GB per hour.... then have a month or 2 in live access and the rest archived onto tape again.
Raws are preferable......if you use codecs court can argue that it has been tampered with :/ (the final result may be
"compressed" but what you are really doing is completely reencoding every frame...which is basically editing.)

also even if you did want to use a codec, encoding 25gbs/d(let alone per hour...) will kill the lifespan of your CPU.
1hr of encoding is much heavier on a pc than 1day of gaming :(.( it will also take 3-4 hours to encode 1 hr of video if you don't want insane quality loss.)

Yeah yeah.. I'm aware of that... notice the "might be necessary from some legal reason" in the post :p

But apparently the 25Gb value is already the compressed value...

All in all, in my ever so humble opinion, these guys are looking at some relatively beefy enterprise(ish) grade storage hardware... and it will cost them a pretty penny to do so. Unless they think out of the box and sacrifice a few things...

This is the head department against poaching in our country, I hope they fork out the right amount of cash.
