Who gives a sh*t about soccer in a cricket thread?

This is about talent and best man for the position in the team. My view is that Tsolokile is maybe the 5th best keeper in the country.

is he part of the "regular" squad though - barely following cricket in the last few years but I see he is in the squad for this series?

what bothers me with the whole thing is that he was pushed in ahead at one stage and then definitely held back

Traditionally soccer is black. Whites have been content for it to be run into the ground all these years. You telling me that magically now whites have evolved to care about local soccer?

Lol someone better tell the rest of the world. We have an expert here. What a load of complete rubbish.

Think whatever you want but that's been my experience being involved with local soccer. Feel free to share your actual experiences.

And local CRICKET?

Lol. Yes Mickey. Look it's been ages since democracy. We should be picking teams on merit. There must be other factors at play that we might not be aware of. That wk is 33 though. If they wanting to affect the future then choose somebody younger to groom.

Merit selections should be the way to go though. Sport minister should rather investigate why there isn't enough quality to be selected on merit.

You mean they don't just randomly pick people from office parks across the country to play for The Proteas?!
thats what I always thought
I mean how else does a person explain Gibbs ...

In seriousness though local cricket seems to thrive in spite of CSA

My mate in PE has set up a T20 social league - 20 teams. Summer and Winter competitions.

I often wonder what happens to 'development' budgets of national unions. I get pi$$ed everytime I drive down the n2 and see kids playing on the sand next to the n2.

The Western Province Cricket Association have their clubs structured as such:
  • Mini cricket
  • Youth cricket
  • Club cricket
  • Woman’s cricket
  • First Class Provincial
With participation in:
  • Ram Slam T20 Cup
  • Momentum One Day Cup
  • Sunfoil Series
  • First Class Provincial Competition
Then you have your social and promotional (corporate) teams and other cricket such as action and indoor cricket.

All these groups are alive and prospering with talent, where these players end up…

That is a very sore point! Burns my arse... Giving clubs some kit and thinking all be be hunky dory from there on is how they operate.

The clubs need facilities, including decent practice nets. This remains one of the biggest hurdles. The local cricket board fobs it off on the metro and the metro does not have the budget.

End result is that the "development" teams get clobbered week in and week out. And nobody enjoys losing every weekend...

1. There is not enough money, I know.
2. Near 90% goes to developing the disadvantaged sport grounds and facilities. Ahem... contractors...
3. Politics.

So where did you get this opinion? Clearly you don’t support local clubs.

If they want transformation, then it must happen over all levels.

Most dont! You get quite a number who get excited about European soccer but local soccer... Complete non issue amongst whiteys... It would have shown in match attendance...

Top level national teams should be completely unaffected by transformation agendas. You don't grow a tree from the top down... It starts at the roots...
