CSGO Sticky thread

Is that supposed to be hunting or just going on a killing spree?

No idea. It's not hunting I can tell you that. Also looks like it might be in Russia. I don't like the indiscriminate killing by any means. But that guy has some serious skills tbh. You see the pigs run from side to side over the road. It makes me think it's a culling of some kind. They are being chased across the road from both sides one at a time it looks like.

n00b question here - what are the best servers (busiest) to currently play CS:GO on? I'm trying to get back into it - haven't played since CS 1.6 days.

The old ways of looking for servers are not used anymore, just for community servers, you choose the game type you want and click go.

Did the 180Mb update last night, now browsing for community servers about only 25% of the usual SA servers show up. the rest offline or did something else go horribly wrong??

I bought CS:GO over the weekend, daughter was visiting & wanted to play with an online buddy.

THB I thought it was going to be like Battlefield, and the training course was fun, but is there anything more to running the same scenario's over & over again?

What do you mean the same scenarios over and over again

CSGO is a game of personal improvement and skill. Learning the spots to hold, learning the smokes to throw, learning to control the spray on the weapons. You begin your journey on understanding game economy happens when you reach level 3 and are then allowed to play competitive matches (5v5, you have to buy armour and defuse kits). You will then learn which weapons are most effective at which points in the game etc.

There is plenty to learn. The maps are few in number and certainly aren't very large but that isn't where the challenge comes in. The variation is in the styles of play and the strategies used on each map.

Sorry but WHAT?

You need to play it more often :p

I get what you're saying. This is a tactical game and one with the most precise shooting of all shooting games. It's so precise that one day you can play like a gwd, the next you're just useless. There are loads of different maps though. Do yourself a favour and go and look at one of the pro-games on Youtube. You will get a better feel for it and see what it's all about. If it's still not your cup of tea it just isn't.

Same map, same team, same objective, x amount of retries all over in 3 mins. I got excited when I got to play as Jamal the terrorist in control of the bomb, but then same story.

To be fair I had about an hour of playtime this far, after getting back into Battlefield 4 (& 3!) again lately, appreciating its open gameplay on huge maps etc. so the comparison was inevitable.

I will of course play some more (I am probably the most tactical shooter I know), watch a few vids etc. as per your suggestions.

Out of interest sake, what was your very first FPS you played?

The rounds are there to create a game of economic momentum. The team that wins gets more money for the next round than the losing team. Kills with certain guns give you greater cash rewards than others. Planting the bomb grants your entire team bonus cash. Consecutive round losses mean more starting cash for the losing side until eventually they're actually getting more for losing than winning. All of these elements mean some rounds one team will be better equipped than the other and hence tactics will have to change.

The entire game is geared towards maintaining economic momentum for your team and breaking it for your opponents (they can't fight as effectively if they can't afford to buy guns ;)). In that sense it is rather unique and not directly comparable to any other FPS. Don't think of it in terms of how different it is to BF, see it as a different kind of game altogether. Both have their pros and cons. CSGO is far less casual than most FPSs you're going to encounter. You're still a noob when you have 100s of hours in CSGO.

I have 1500 hours and I'm still a noob :D

Is it worth it to get a steelseries rival 100 ? evetech is just around the corner and i have some cash i saved for a mouse, the logitech i wanted to get is kek expensive , the rival is like 800 bucks.

Prob Wolfenstein3D :)

More recently, Battlefield 2 & then Bad Company 2. I'm kinda a Battlefield man..

Interesting, but then surely you should've been there for the birth of Half Life / Opposing Force / CS 1.6 no?

I know the war between BF & CoD is quite big, but comparing them to CS is something entirely different as someone pointed out earlier.
I love all 3 as they bring something different to the game.

To each their own however, but give it some time and it will surely grow on you.
Don't know about anyone else but spending some time on CS drastically improves my gameplay for both CoD & BF.

COD = Solo FPS, no strats needed.
BF = Team or Solo FPS, minimal strats needed.
CS = Team, strats or die mother fudger.

It does. As the margin for error is so much smaller in CS:GO as opposed to the others. Doing 360 no scope headshots in COD and BF is not impossible just hard. No way in hell you will get that right in CS:GO.
