I see there is another VAC wave. Valve must have tweaked something, but like all recent VAC waves, this seems to be mostly limited to timeouts. No permanent bans. False positives are more likely to be the case.

Now, now, cheaters like to peddle VAC wave narratives, so I am unsure how accurate this complaint on Reddit is.

New CS2 Update causing false bans [since update: 06.12.2025]

Couple of friends and I figured out the reason why the false bans in CS2 happen at this time.

If your client lags for too long (example: 5-10 secs) while moving (+turnleft/+turnright), you can trigger an instant vacban/gameban after your fps returns to normal.

So wait, is this supposed to combat bots? Yeah, I haven't seen idle spin bots in a long time. The new bots are actually quite active.

CS2 is in a pretty crap place at the moment. Valve can't stop external/hardware cheats. VAC Live is crap, and I doubt that VAC is actually active. I don't even know what their anti-cheat is anymore. I mean, they have VAC 3.0, VACnet, and VAC Live, and I don't know which is included in which.

I played against a not-so-old account the other day. Ever since the account was created, it played almost 24 hours a day. 43% teammate ban. K/D is in the top 1%. It is also an active FACEIT account. Whoever is behind that account, and it gets weird, but the person isn't shy about blatantly cheating. The account's inventory is also bonkers. So, yeah, I don't think that Valve is proactively combating cheaters.

So I have now gone through many accounts that are 'replicating' this, only to get a game ban. Now I am regularly playing the game again, and I do a sense test almost every round start. It is how I determine my motion that is allowed. I don't go spinbot-like, but I do circular movements. Some who have been banned did the same. I haven't been banned, so there must be more to this... I assume that they have a script they aren't telling...

This situation is weird. So... For some reason, there are players deliberately triggering this ban. Some pro players, I am not sure about their tiers, have also been banned. According to cheater communities, this isn't a VACnet update, but a rollback? Apparently, it is more lax, though mass triggering certain movements.

Valve might be good at many things, but anti-cheat isn't in their pedigree, or maybe they are battling cheaters decrying their endeavors.

This person pleaded:

It is not my place to determine whether these players are indeed cheating, running scripts and whatnot, or are legitimate.

Jittering and lag, well, Valve knows what is happening server-side, and clients will have a pattern. I mean, they have the data.

From previous VAC waves, not everyone who claimed innocence had their accounts restored.

Most red skins are now highly valuable. Some cases are also booming like the gloves case which was worthless some time ago. I have also seen reports that since Valve made the change that some have stopped doing tradeups. I think Valve will be making more tweaks, but they can't make any more drastic ones since it is way too disruptive. Some third-party trade and /cough gambling sites have also closed.

Counter-Strike 2 Update

...
  • Fixed a case that caused a small number of users to receive an erroneous VAC ban. The bans will be removed.

Valve is making reversals again... For some reason this is celebrated in some cheating communities, who would have thought?

Sure Valve is keeping a eye on these communities?

This is a odd tweak they made to VAC since some abovementioned communities have said it is more lax, yet, there were this ban wave. I dunno.

Valve has made the game more responsive. The hit reg has also improved quite a bit since CS2 released. There are still anomolies with client-side predictions. I keep the Damage Prediction settings disabled because it seems counter-productive when the hit isn't registered, but the clients believes it to be the case.

I will be playing Thursday night and the weekend.

@Neoprod @Cav5034 ready or not. Just message Beel to stop playing with his crosshair. You want to play @Genisys?
