CT taxi blitz nets 3,000 drivers

Yeah nothing happens to them so it's a waste of time to even pull them over to be honest.

The solution is easy. Impound the taxi and put the driver and the owner in jail. Then use said taxi to export illegal immigrants back to where they came from.
 
Until there are direct consequences to the operation of their livelihooods, nothing will change.

Problem is they do...

eThekwini tried to get hard with the taxi's a few years ago, and they were forced to back down by the taxi owners/drivers... They are prepared to do things that the police wouldn't be able to handle...

Political will and support needs to be there and SAPS will be able to deal with it.

SAPS also needs to invest in and train specialised units to deal with violent riots.

Well done to the city of Cape town at least they have the balls to confront the lawless taxis .
Here in Durban the city policemen own taxis and will do nothing against them .

I 100% agree with you in theory...

Practice is a slightly more complicated beast, since (at least in Durban) many cops own taxi businesses themselves.

SANDF has moved into this area.
Difficult to argue with a R5...
 
Well the impounding does carry a hefty fee which you must pay to get the taxi back.

So that is one fine they can't escape from.

Yup, and there profit margins cant be that high, so being out of action+ having pay a hefty fine can't be good for business. Once they realise its cheaper to abide by the law we should see some progress. As long as the cops don't back down and relieve the pressure.

Yeah, but isn't the owner being punished as opposed to the driver? It certainly seems that way.
