Curious - sleeving or fibre

Just as a matter of interest...Is the rolls of "cable" you see all over the place the actual fibre optic cable or just a type of sleeve for it?

Looks like maybe about 20-30mm in diameter and all over next to highways mostly.

That's the duct. Must be buried first. Fibre will be hauled through afterwards.

I have seen two types... the larger sleeving usually green and ribbed ... about 20 cm wide and hollow is for Telkom wires I think.

The fibre is usually a solid cable about 5 cm wide. Comes in all kind of colours.

Green ribbed sleeving is usually Telkom, the Orange version is used by Neotel.

The actual fiber optic cable is between 10-20 in thickness, black or orange in colour.

What you saw were the sleeves. Orange in colour and normally rolled up.
