Current Experience(s) With Axxess

FAIL: MWEB uncapped -> Axxess uncapped -> Cybersmart.

Wow you're a sucker for punishment. From good, to bad, to the worst. Stay away from Cybersmart, for your own good. MWEB definitely have the best uncapped products in the market. Are you one of the abusers in the top 5% that all the ISPs hate? What's your monthly usage like?

Perhaps the problem is not with your ISP, but your line, or your modem? Have you eliminated these as potential culprits (irrespective of what each ISP says).

Sign up for a free 1GB unshaped account from Afrihost, if they're still available - http://www.afrihost.com/site/page/free_1gb_adsl_account.

Test it out and see if you like it. Personally, Afrihost capped data works the best for me. It's the fastest, has the best latency, and has the best price. Perhaps you should consider a 10 GB account from Afrihost. This might suit you better than uncapped.

Also, remember that MWEB cut it's peering links with all local ISPs who do not peer with them openly and freely. They are no longer paying for local transit. That means those ISPs that currently don't peer with MWEB, will have their local data routed internationally, and then back to RSA. This will double or triple the latency for certain websites and gaming servers, depending on which ISPs networks these servers are hosted on.

So the issue might not even by the shaping or the FUP. Some ISPs respond to all claims of slow speeds with some BS about exceeding the FUP. Don't trust what they say, unless they can show you hard evidence that you've done so. Do your own investigations.

I'm going to risk posting here, hopefully i won't get the ill-tempered response iCubed got.

Considering there are three people in your house; how sure are you that the account is not just performing better after hours because the sibling that downloads 10GB in a week is going to bed? Also, try phoning Axxess right now and asking if you are being rate limited right now, and if not then whats the problem? Whats their response if you're not rate limited?

LOL... with every post on MyBB there is a risk you have to be willing to take. @Xiphan - no personal attacks were intended, perhaps I should have toned my response down a bit. But I still stand by what I said. MWEB have the best uncapped, and Cybersmart is the worst ISP (capped or other) to go with.

Check out the forums and see if other people with Axxess are suffering from terrible speeds as well. Get to KNOW the FUP from Axxess - read it, and then monitor your usage, and then you will be able to tell whether it's their service that really sux, or just that the FUP is really restrictive and is kicking in fairly soon.

In any case, whatever you discover, please post the details here so we can all learn from your experience.

if you don't want to go back to Mweb, I'd give Openweb a shot, and maybe pay up a little for the Uncapped Gold.

... So thank you for ruling out Cybersmart as an option.

Just because one guy in this thread says Cybersmart is the worst ISP does not mean you need to follow like a blind sheep and write them off based on one opinion. So here's mine.
I have a capped Cybersmart account and I save that data for my Skype video calls because the latency and speed is faster than my capped axxess and afrihost accounts. I've tested it over hours of video calls, and it wins every time. And lately the pings have improved rapidly, so if these features are what you need then you should buy a gig and give them a shot.

I kind of had the same problem with Axxess recently, when i changed from their 4Meg uncapped to their 384k plus account. For about a week i was only able to hit speeds around 1Meg, no matter the time of day, it would increase slightly after hours, but no where near the 8Meg my line was syncing at. After numerous phone calls and insisting that there was something amiss on their side, and lots of screen shots of speed tests, pings, download speeds of files, they referred the matter over to IS, and it was resolved.
Basically what i'm getting at, is that the tech support usually doesn't know all possible scenarios of your issues, so insist that they refere the matter to IS, and provide them with all the necessary proof that your connection is not what it should be.
On a side note, almost all ISP's suffer from the same support issue, just breathe, and insist they escalate the issue if they cannot resolve it, and it usually gets resolved from the next level.

o noticed shaping per area as, how many people are using mweb in area etc.

seems to be near no using in my area.

im being shaped p2p ofc, but my http speeds is 52kbs + on 512kbs line(downloading) , during business ours, with rapid share etc.(normal shaped account)

so you need find the best for your area it seems.

thats my 2 cents.
