Here's a spot to post recipes, questions (not to me, please!) or remarks on that wonderful thing called curry.

We could start off with: what is your favourite curry ?

Curry on, curry off! :D

Any, a good curry is a good curry :D Not a fan of curry though, actually. Fsk me, right?

I still, after many attempts, have never been able to replicate the type of curry they sell in a Pick n Pay close to me.

It's a chicken curry, and I really have no clue what they use to make it so nice. I started a thread ages ago asking for help, but none of the suggestions worked.

Ask a indian auntie to help you out with a recipe. Have you asked the staff behind the counter for the recipe?

I did they told me they just use normal masala from the shop and garam masala. Doesn't turn out the same way though. :/

Ask them to write down the ingredients & method clearly as you can't cook (so they simplify it, many people just assume others know what to do).

This thread is making me so freaking hungry.

Have a hernia now so curry no longer on my food list until the op has been done (year end).

I miss it so much :o

My favourite is mutton/lamb.

I had the best curry of my life about a month ago, made in a potjie at a friend's place.

When people say curry,I always think of Cartwright's or Rajah Powder.

Any of the Vegetarian Sabzi from Vintage India in Cape Town is a treat!

Curry is a vague term these days.
My favourite would have to be spicy crab curry, the authentic way the old aunties make it.

Then there's marinder (sp) curry, about 19 different spices!!!

They might be using a different type of chicken? cornish ect

Frozen chicken curry must be made differently from fresh chicken curry and the spicing and cooking method is different. The thing about a curry you can taste the difference in the dish its made, like cast iron pot vs stainless steel (i dont know why but I can tell). Also electric vs gas vs open flame will generate big taste differences.

Also because a curry is an amalgamation of favours if you use sub standard quality in a single spice the curry quality is affected. Most likely the taste from your pick n pay they probably grind the spices then and there when they making it where as you buy pre mixed masalas
