custom electronics thread

I know it's not faulty there. I connected up another float outside the tank, and moved the arm up and down accordingly. The needle rose to the level at which i held the arm. Once i startd the car, the needle dropped, and i never moved the arm on the float.

Ok so if i disconnect the gauges in the dash, how will i know whether it's the petrol gauge or not if it's disconnected?

Doesn't have anything to do with cars but maybe you can help:

I want to build a DIY security camera system. The basic idea is to hook a webcam or something up to an LCD via RCA cables but the distance in between is fairly large:

Could I run a low voltage (not sure what the camera would need), 5v or so over like 10m or would I loose too much juice?

Would I need to amplify the RCA signal somehow? How?

Not car related...but yeah.

Over long distance you might find that the signal will degrade heres a hint look at balancing the video signal over twisted pair or something like that. Thats just the idea, its up to you to research it, because I haven't seen this done in cars yet, in AV installations yes, but not in cars

its not really for a car application.

guys i am busy with importing from china and i need a list. What you as car owners would like for your car that will be cheap and good quality. What electronic gadgets would you like for eg gps maybe..etc

this is for those stupid people out there that wants to have fun..lol

After being continually frustrated with our inability to completely turn off the GS's traction and stability control system, we recently learned from an anonymous source how to disable the overprotective electro-nanny. Road test coordinator Marc Noordeloos performed the complicated procedure, took a test drive, and, while grinning from ear to ear, pronounced the car transformed. If you own a 2006 GS (or IS), follow these steps and enjoy the slide. Once the car is started, you have thirty seconds to complete the process. With practice, the procedure can be completed in approximately fifteen seconds but, unfortunately, must be repeated each time the car is switched off.

1. Make sure the car is in Park and the parking brake is disengaged before you start the car.
2. Start the engine.
3. Engage the parking brake.
4. Fully depress the brake pedal and then release.
5. Fully depress the brake pedal and then release.
6. Disengage the parking brake.
7. Fully depress and hold down the brake pedal.
8. Engage the parking brake, then disengage it(while holding down the brake pedal).
9. Engage the parking brake, then disengage it(while holding down the brake pedal).
10. Release the brake pedal.
11. Engage the parking brake.
12. Fully depress the brake pedal and then release.
13. Fully depress the brake pedal and then release.

When "Check VSC" is displayed in the multifunction display along with the "Trac-off" icon indicator, you'll know that you have successfully completed the procedure.

Disclaimer: If you're as stupid as we are, and if you disable VSC on your Lexus, don't blame us when you wrap it around a tree.

Todays motor electronics tip.
If your interior light dont work on an old car, dont take it to a sparky, just check the bulb and if its not the bulb please clean the contacts and bent the copper tabs inward and replace the bulb.

TOdays tip on motor electronics. If ever you notice when your brakes flash and reverse lights come on when you put indicators on or break do yourself a favour and look in the boot for loose earth connections.
If you have a german car you would be looking for a medium size brown wire.Check all nuts in the boot along the rear lights area or just give that ole car a bang in the back.
