Custom SMS tones

A mate of mine with some kind of Motorola or other was showing me the fact that he can set different sms tones to different people, just like most phones do with ring tones.

Why can one not do this with all phones by now?

And does anyone know what phones have this capability? I am not touching another Motorola with a barge pole...

Nokia allow you to create 'groups' and then assign tones to the groups.

I have a VWS group and a work group.

VWS group plays tone A
work group plays tone B

I think you can assign different tones to different people too, I just use group tones

On my nokia 6300, you goto the contact go add detail and then tone - when that person phones, that tone plays.
