I notice a lot of grumbling on this board regarding Neotel. I, on the other hand have had a very positive experience with them so far.

I called their customer service department to request that all inbound TCP and ICMP traffic be opened to my router. The helpdesk guy logged a call for me and within 15 min, the job was done. The guys there are very professional and friendly, and I had a bit of a giggle when I imagined how difficult the same proceedure would be if it was Telkom I was calling.

One issue tho.. I was getting a solid 1mb down and 700k up since installing the device. Suddenly, day before yesterday it went down to 120kb down and 80kb up with constant disconnects. I phoned helpdesk and logged a call. Once again, nothing but professional, prompt service. They called me yesterday afternoon to say that they are sending a techie today and will resolve it.

While I have had a connection issue, the excellent service I received from helpdesk makes me confident that they will resolve the issue today and I can go on enjoying their service.

Well done Neotel. Keep it up!

The problem I've been having is with local sites. Pinging speedtest.neotel.co.za results in 1000msec pings with around 40% packet loss. So, my problem appears to be unrelated to the Seacom disaster ;-)

@dankritz - What service are you using: Neoconnect Prime of NeoFlex ?

NeoFlex. Interestingly enough, I'm suddenly getting good ping times again. Mmmm.. wierd.

Ok.. Fabian (the techie) arrived. Apparently my router is buggered. I must just go swap it out at their Fourways branch tomorrow. He even offered to lend me his router for the weekend.

Excellent service! Am glad I signed up :)
