,i need advise ,maybe u can enlighten me. Im expecting a package from UK its actually at customs in Poland, i got a call to say i must pay for clearance/customs duties which is $850. I wanted to know if is there such a thing? The package is worth about R+-2ml... Its a gift from my significant other, hes a pilot from Uk. He told me there will be certain charges in order to have the package delivered to my doorstep but am a bit sceptical because its my first time recieving something from abroad. The customs officer told me i must pay at western union in jhb.....how true is this??

I'm guessing you've never met this boyfriend in person but here you go...

Pay the $850 and get your R+-2ml....totally worth it...

Customs is not paid at western union. Customs charges are from SARS and they have no reason to use western union to receive payment. This is a scam even if you met him in person and are in fact engaged to him.

The Western Union payment is for customs in Poland.

So the person you know and trust told you there'd be costs involved, but you're asking random people on the internet? Still sounds like you're being conned.

yes he is
Your fiancé is a pilot in the UK and he's posting you millions of rands worth of contraband? Via Poland? Come now.

I realise it's hard to accept but you've been had. Any money that has changed hands thus far is gone, any money that changes hands in the future will suffer a similar fate. Part of you understands this or you wouldn't have joined this forum.

Let it go.

Sorry @bassiemhl this is a scam. This is not how Customs work. Poland's customs agency will liase with the sender or logistics company ONLY regarding taxes.

Edit: You can verify this by contacting Sars.

Can i use the western union in any absa branch?
It seems you dont like listening to good advice.
Im guessing we will see another thread from you soon about how you got conned out of $850.

It works like this though, R2mil worth of "gifts" will have a lot more than $850 customs fees, it also wont be a US dollar amount in SA. Secondly the courier company will contact you directly as a sender and do some documentation with you, they then require you to deposit directly into their bank account.

Bwana has already told you the truth, it hurts but its going to hurt less than throwing away more money at it.
