Perhaps like those countries that kept selling landmines knowing how and where they'd end up used? Or maybe the ones that kept selling cluster bombs and the ones that kept using them? Not quite as brave as the suicide bomber though. At least he went with his victims.

There is a story that if they ever draw their knives that it can't be resheathed unless it has tasted blood. Even when they take it out to sharpen it. If memory serves the knife is called a kukri.

I think that they also have the distinction of never having run away/retreated/broken even with horrendous casualties.

I don't know who wrote it but they should have signed it.

To answer the question, no we were never fighting a war on terror. It was always merely a convenient political vehicle.
No one seems to remember the Russians......and the difference they made to the war.
Except for the US soldier, they are mentioned because they were all neo-colonial British possessions (or owed allegiance to Britain). It can be argued that the US was also neo-colonial, but that was way back when. They all were on the same page anyway. Russia had its own agenda.
And what you my dear athiest counterpart, also fail to understand is that when someone forces their value system on others the result is conflict.... so whilst you may be someone who promotes a concept like the banning of religion...I am the one who understands that this will result in the very conflict you are trying to eradicate.
Banning religion is forcing secular values on others...no different in principle to religious folk forcing their values on others, or Hitler, Stalin...apartheid government etc.
The mere fact that there are sane, normal, peaceful religious people out there, Muslim and Christian refute your argument. They don't deserve to be condemned at all.
Besides Balstrome, the tone of your arguments on this forum make you sound like an athiest "extremist" to use such a term. The seemingly endless stream of hate filled rants, kind of reminds me the fundementalist holy man preaching to his flock about the infidels (To use a stereotype to illustrate the point...)
They may call themselves adherents of the religion but they don't follow its teachings. I may also call myself a doctor but if I don't follow the way of doing things - take a history, examine the patient, come up with a differential diagnosis, order tests to confirm/exclude the differential diagnoses, discuss the diagnosis and implications with the patient and then commence treatment, I am not really a doctor, am I? If I for example wave a wand over him or use a fake scanner or lie to the patient and order bad treatment I am not a real member of the medical profession as my profession teaches to adhere to the proper protocols, guidelines and honesty towards patients. I may still have all the medical degrees even Cum Laude but hey I'm still not being a real doctor as per what it means to be a doctor and the way medical practice is taught.
Instances of Protestant on Catholic aggression are very rare. They occasionally happen in Northern Ireland but that fight is really between English settlers (Protestants) and Irish natives (Catholics). It is not a battle of ideology between followers of the British Queen as Head of the Church and the Pope as Head of the Church - and even if it were, neither of these people would ever order killing of innocents in their name. The last Pope was extremely anti-war and chastised the IRA repeatedly, the current one is also quite anti-War although less ecumenical.
Excellent soldiers! Some maintain the backbone of the British army. Nepalese with strict selection criteria. Their weapon of choice was the kukri (a curved knife/sword hybrid). They were so formidable that the enemy would shlt themselves if they knew they were facing Ghurkas and occasionally gave-up without a fight. Covered themselves with glory in WW 2.
The star of the TV program AbFab (I forget her name – the blonde one) recently protested with aging Ghurka soldiers (her father was a Ghurka officer) about pensions.
But the Russian soldier was not a liberator. For some of us, he was our "ally's ally." You'd be speaking Russian if he won all the way. Not to say that these guys did not sacrifice but their regime was just as rotten as the Nazis.

Here is a woman who should run for Prime Minister! Written by a housewife, to her daily newspaper. This is one ticked off lady.
'Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we? Was it or was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores in July 2002, and in New York Sept 112001 and have continually threatened to do so since?
Were people from all over the world, not brutally murdered that day in London, and in downtown Manhattan , and in a field in Pennsylvania ?
Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn't they?
And I'm supposed to care that a few Taliban were claiming to be tortured by a justice system of the nation they come from and are fighting against in a brutal insurgency.
I'll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11 and 7/7.
I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere belief of which is a crime punishable by beheading in Afghanistan
I'll care when these thugs tell the world they are sorry for hacking off Nick Berg's head while Berg screamed through his gurgling slashed throat.
I'll care when the cowardly so-called 'insurgents' in Afghanistan come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by hiding in mosques and behind women and children.
I'll care when the mindless zealots who blow themselves up in search of Nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide bombs.
I'll care when the British media stops pretending that their freedom of speech on stories is more important than the lives of the soldiers on the ground or their families waiting at home to hear about them when something happens.
In the meantime, when I hear a story about a British soldier roughing up an Insurgent terrorist to obtain information, know this: I don't care.
When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is told not to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take this to the bank:

When I hear that a prisoner - who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat, and 'fed special food' that is paid for by my taxes - is complaining that his holy book is being 'mishandled,' you can absolutely believe in your heart of hearts: I don't care.
And oh, by the way, I've noticed that sometimes it's spelled 'Koran' and other times 'Quran.' Well, believe me!! you guessed it ........ I don't care!!
If you agree with this viewpoint, pass this on to all your E-mail friends. Sooner or later, it'll get to the people responsible for this ridiculous behavior!
If you don't agree, then by all means hit the delete button. Should you choose the latter, then please don't complain when more atrocities committed by radical Muslims happen here in our great country! And may I add:
'Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. Our soldiers don't have that problem.'
