Cutting mobile prices

Nice article, but don't expect any action until ICASA gets around to actualy regulating instead of talking about regulating.

In 1999, the interconnection fee was about 20c a minute and, two years later, it had risen to R1,25. Icasa argues this was done deliberately to stymie new rival Cell C.

... now there's an intersting spin on it. I certainly didn't know this. My most sincere apologies to Cell C for thinking that they failed to introduce competition because they were colluding with the big boys... Meanwhile, they were just getting shafted along with the rest of us.

However, Icasa could have a battle on its hands. It’s likely that the operators — MTN, Vodacom and Cell C — will take legal action to oppose Icasa’s move to label them dominant players. And it remains to be seen whether Icasa is sufficiently resourced to fight off any such action or to implement its findings.
Are there any other mobile players in the market? Off course it would make them dominant if there aren't - these people have to be seriously retarded to argue otherwise. If this goes to court, they WILL lose because even somebody who's not technically inclined can see this.
