Hi Guys

Hope someone will be able to help me. Been trying whole night and half my work day trying to get CyanogenMod on my S4 but cannot.

When i follow the instruction i get to the point where my phone is in USB debugging mode and ready for the windows installer to do its job, then it seems like the windows installer just does detect my phone at all . Although in device manager it shows Samsung android device but there is an orange exclamation and says your device was not installed correctly.

Last night on my PC did the zadig route and when the windows installer was supposed to take over told me the device is not supported :wtf:
I have the i9500 with JB 4.3 and should be supported.

I really would like to root my device.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Not sure what the zadig route is, but have you tried Odin? (I'm pretty sure you have).

Assuming you'll be doing it through Odin...

Unfortunately, you have to install Kies for the drivers (unless if you're fast enough to get them out of AppData or wherever during Kies install). Once you do that, Odin will detect your phone by noting the COM port its connected on. After that, simply follow instructions for rooting/flashing/etc.

Thanks, haven't tried Odin at all.
Will do some research and see how that works.
Can you perhaps suggest what would be the easiest and best way to root the S4 ?

Also not familiar with zadig...

Is the phone unlocked / rooted. If not try Chainfire's AutoRoot.

From there install CWM (ClockWorkMod), then download any Kit Kat (4.4.2) Rom you want - CM11 here. Remember most dont include GApps (Google Apps), read the RoM install instructions for where to get them, typically I noticed most use PA GAPPS (Paranoid Android).

Easy Peasy ...

The problem I have with cyanogenmod currently is there is no official release of the ROM, its only alpha and beta versions of it.

There are quite a lot of problems with the buggy ROM currently, another problem is they only give their full focus on the GT-i9505 version of the phone.

thanks alot guys.

@ SirFooK'nG are there any major bugs i an expect with the kit kat build?
As long as i can get a few apps from the Google store , phones , whatsapp and camera work fine should be ok.

Yep, still does gives an error stating that the driver was not installed correctly.

CyanogenMod 11.0 Nightlies

Switching to CyanogenMod 11.0 from another ROM:

- Make sure you're running a proper working CWM Recovery.
- Download Gapps and the CM 11.0 zip on to your phone.
- Boot into recovery
- Flash the CM 11.0 zip from your SD card.
- Flash the Gapps zip from your SD card.
- Wipe data/factory reset (Extremely necessary)
- Reboot to system.
- Never restore system data using Titanium Backup.

Bugs:

- Can't record videos.
- Call quality issues. (Microphone issues and distortion in speaker.)
- Wi-Fi tethering doesn't work.

eish

No video recording and call issues
Why do people bother with rooting then?

Seems like you never win with Android.
-Have stock 4.3 rom and battery just drains ones i have my wifi on, phone takes forever to charge , have to actually put it off to get it to charge in under an hour and a half.
-Scrolling to older pics make the phone really crawl with only about 4gb of photos.
-Call drops happen quite frequently. (Thought all phones should at least have their basic features solidly built)
-Screen wakes up randomly when locked.

Feel like im getting shafted in each hole.

...
It is a "Nightly", its kinda like beta versions... If you want a tried and tested release go for a "Stable" build.

How much battery drain are we talking?

I haven't seen this but perhaps try another galley app (QuickPic).

Battery drain let's say 25% - 30% overnight with my wifi, mobile data, and power saving on only. Location services, ask Othery gimmicks are off. My battery used to last at times a day and half to 2 days.

Yes trying the installer .It just does nothing when my phone is in debug mode and plug it in the PC .
CM on the PC doesnt pick it up. Or will tell me my phone is unsupported.
