Cybergames

If game developers aren't being rewarded for their hard work then i pitty you guys,
no doubt there are fat cat managers / CEO's reaping in the rewards of your hard work.

My question really was from a consumer point of view, is piracy responsible for the drop in price of PC games and music ?

Erm, lest we forget... do you think the developers (the actual people involved in creating the game) sees a dime of that millions they make? only in rare cases (like id software) i suppose...

mostly the game developers just earn a salary like you and me... i couldnt care less if somebody uses my code to make their own applications cause i have already been paid for my work... but when they go out and resell it and make a living off it thats different... the game developers i suppose dont care. they already got their pay... its the fatcats that want more money i think

cobra, i mailed cybergames and he replied but he didnt answer my question: are your games copies/pirated? he just told me that R149 includes postage... yay, so i'm gonna pay R150 for UT2004 and not be able to play online? SCORE!

In the short term or long term, developers do get more money if a game does well. Bonusses in the short term and more interesting work at better pay in the long term.

you can get it from www.digitalplanet.co.za for R168. rather buy the legal version.

And it's those same fat cats that come back to you come bonus time and tell you that only 2 out of 5 games out there are legit, profits are down and there goes your bonus. Not unlike any other industry out there I suppose. Piracy affects everyone, whether you want to know or not.

guys why would you do that to someone

how many of you have downloaded pirated stuff?
same as cybergames cept they make money doing it
dont report them

if piracy never existed imagine how expensive everything would

do you think dvd's would 99 rand i think not.

o yes the poor ppl who make big games shame, imagine all the money they loose on us

i got no problem with piracy i think cd's games's that sorta thing should be way cheaper.

lol then those companies ang are just rippin those ppl off
pocketing the money themselves.

poor bastids with their huge house amazing sports cares boats and fat bank accounts lol and you report a little company like cybergames sis on you

if things where cheaper than pirating they would sell just as much and possibly end of making a bit more than if they sold everything expensive (common sense)

look at movies, if you dont have an edgars card or something like that

for 2 ppl its around 70 to see a new movie

you could buy a pirate one for the same price

well, whats stopping you from getting an Edgars card then? :P

So basically why not buy a stolen car rather than buy one from a legitimate source, since the big bad car manufacturers and insurance companies wont even notice this small indiscretion against there massive yearly income

Now would it not be wonderful if everybody thought that way?

Games else where in japan or uk ot america cost about 300 bucks when it came out. Plus its the original version.
Games in sa are too expensive so that why its easier to buy pirates
my 2cents neway?

actually at our current exchange rate games are CHEAPER in SA than in the EU or US... did you take that into consideration? and i mean about PC games... console games have a standard price across the board in all places coz SONY says so...

nobody manufactured the pirate warez, like dvds and games. the pirate himself made his own copy. no physical loss occurs. cybergames is making a living off of it however, and i find that their price of R150 is almost the same as the real deal. so it costs CG nothing to make the copy (lets make it max R20) and then sell for 700% profit... erm, now THATS piracy...

Stealing cars is another issue. A stolen car impacts the person who bought it, Mrs Smith. She doesnt have a car now but the manufacturers still have their money for the car they sold her. The THIEF is the one has the money now.

I'll tell you what, let’s agree to disagree?

Has anybody played the new battle field? is it any good?

Today my friend contacted my and asked for the price of TM:sunrise.
I said 200bucks and he said 500bucks.
You maybe right in saying games are cheaper, but pc's are not.
Today i found a full spec machine for 3000bucks
3.0ghz intel
512ram
160gb hdd
256gfx
thats is fricking cheap bro, tell me a cheaper price and illbe impressed

sorry Angelis, shouldnt have debated too hard on that one... piracy is piracy...

yeah, where you see those prices? Rectron cant even sell it that cheap (i wont mention SAHARA cause their stuff just... argh, nevermind)

Have you had a look at Pinnacle? Good prices (using Rectron as a comparison) and excellent service. And the best part is, they stock something else than AOpen :D

yeah, buddy of mine has accounts at Pinnacle, Genex, Sonic, Sahara, Esquire. Genex isnt too bad, and Sonic stocks Chaintech.

Hmmm, keep us updated on the status of the report made to BSA! Are they going down? Are they gonna push up their high profit margins?
