Hi

Has anybody bought games from www.cybergames.co.za before, there prices are good, but I am not to sure about the setup, new games going for R149-00 incl overnight postage

I have bought from them many times. They send your parcell via speedpost so if you order today you get it the following day. Also the more you buy the cheaper it gets. The games come in normal cd cases with condensed manuals. Beware that you can not play the game with the cd's you have to use the crack supplied on the cd. This tell me it's warez ,but they have been operating for a number of years without being closed down so there you go.

As far as I recall, these guys started up at Bruma flea market, which should answer your question as to the legitimacy of these games.

For just R149 including nationwide postage within 48hrs. Buy 2 or more at R125 each. Buy 5 or more at R110 each.

A bit suspicious, don't you think?

Organised Crime Unit JHB and internal legal consultant Corne Guldenpfennig take on Cybergames and Gameworld!

Corne comments: "I am pleased to advise that we busted Cybergames on the 27/11/03, at about 5h15 which lasted until 10h30. It was a HUGE surprise to them as they are apparantely well connected with the people conducting raids and always know when to expect a bust. Well, well, this time they didn't expect a thing.

Obviously we received resistance, but Organised Crime handled it very well and acted professionally throughout. The owner was arrested and jailed last night at about 10h00. This bust was done in terms of the Tax and Customs Acts so that there cannot be any space for loopholes!A total of about 565 PlayStation One games were seized and approximately 128 PlayStation 2 games were siezed. That same evening, Game World, up the road, was relieved of 103 PlayStation One games and 1 PlayStation 2 games (the majority at this shop was DVD though). The owner was arrested and jailed on the evening of 28/11/03"

This is from http://www.playstation.co.za under the 'Piracy' link.

Looks like it didn't do much good though.

I bought from them: They are most certainly pirates. How i know this? Notice the "crack" folder on the "original" game you bought :P [Heck they even insert a little "instruction flyer" on how to install the "patch" ]

I stopped buying from them, not because of them being pirates, but because all retail games' prices has DROPPED significantly over the past year in stores. To such an extend that you can buy the same game at take2.co.za for R200 . Meantime cybergames has never dropped their prices at all, i mean if im gonna pay only R50 less for a pirated game then i rather buy the original and not worry whether the 'real' patch will work. [In short, R150 is a rip-off for a pirated game]

Only "good" part of cybergames though is the fact that they got games that arent sold in the country [or havent been officially released]. I.e. Gothic I never got into SA until Gothic II was released...but guess who had it all the time...Although i think that is changing, e-tailers like kalahari/take2 is catching on.

sad, i mailed the guy to ask him if his stuff are pirated. cant play ut2004 with an illegal key now can i :( oh well, gonna have to wait till they re-release ut2004 for R199 (which has already happened according to megarom.co.za)

anybody know from which retail store i can buy UT2004 for R199 (the re-release)? oh, in cape town

If your going to buy pirated games, rather download it? No point to make someone profit from illegal activities where you could download the same game on adsl within 24hrs. Heck, even 12hrs would be easy.

Anyways, buy the freaken game :)

Yeah, downloading is easy, but its less easy to procure a valid key to use on legal servers :P

Well these illegal copies dont include a legit key either. That was the point, dont buy illegal games, its rather retarded.

yeah :P thanks for the heads up...

and take2 can have my money then...

oh, and i got a reply from cybergames. he didnt answer my questions, only told me that the R149 includes postage. OK, so you dont want to admit that they are pirated? hmmm, you mean its illegal?!?!

these guys cant be shut down, right?

Yeah, don't support pirates, support Telkom
Personally, I would rather buy the game and support the creator (my 2c)

Hmmmfff...

Do you think that piracy has had a positive effect on the pricing of legit PC Games ?

PS2 games are still a complete rip off, they are more expensive than PC games and yet the developers of PS2 games only had to code it for a single platform whereas PC Games are coded for several different platforms....

FYI there is a Piracy Franchise in CPT, yes, Franchise, several branches that sell copied Games and DVD's. The cops bust them but it got thrown out of court this year on a small technicallity.

I think gaming piracy in SA has deeper roots coz MANY people dont see it as illegal... you go to ANY flea market and you find at least a dozen stands selling pirated games, DVD's, CD's, etc... i think is the concept that PIRACY=THEFT just doesnt settle into their minds...

I dont take the usual excuse about prices of games, if they can afford ciggarettes and alcohol why cant you afford ONE game a month at least??? bleh!

Not just that. Being a developer myself I realize how much blood sweat and tears go into developing these games just to find that some bloke thought it a good idea to start pirating it.
Does anybody realize how much money gets wasted because the software houses have to spend exuberant amounts of money to try and protect their software against pirates?
Piracy is theft, end of story.

I agree with you, I also do some programming and takes up alot of time of which you get nothing for, that is why I asked here because I mailed Cybergames and had no reply.
