Hi All,

I recently bought a 10mb home uncapped from Cybersmart. I didn't realise that the accounts are "throttled" on P2P up until 12:30, but no big deal, I stayed up to ensure that the account does indeed download at full speed during those times.

I dont get more than 200Kb, during the day I am supposed to get 10% of my line speed for P2P which should be around 100kb, I dont get more than 10kb.

I have emailed their support and escalated the ticket with no response what so ever.

Sigh!

Don't worry about the debit orders. They will go off like clockwork.

My speeds are also slow on Cybersmart to the point where webpages and downloads timesout or connection errors occur. Phoned the rep today (btw what a joke the reps are) told me that they experiencing bandwidth issues and hopefully will be resolved END of Jan 2014...lol

I think the issues is they are upgrading peoples accounts and they did not take the extra bandwidth usage into account and now the have bandwidth issues.

Guys, save yourself the trouble, cancel your accounts and move on to a proper ISP.

/thread

To which ISP are you referring?

It would help to tell us so we can cancel and move on to greener ISP's...
I think where you live might influence how well an ISP perform. You will get many that hate an ISP and others that recommend it. Telkom perform perfectly for me and Openweb (the debit order also suck) not.

I'm on the business uncapped account for R900 odd per month including line rental and it's performs better than anything I've ever used....

This was yesterday, source rapidgator hosted files, using premium account....

Not sure tbh...

I don't think so though! The smart business uncapped has p2p throttling where the account I was given performs pretty much as a capped, unshaped account would. It's bloody marvelous but I'm not sure where or how you would order it. I got mine through Laurie Fialkov direct!

Well phoned and complained AGAIN, I am VERY impressed, as an apology they have upgraded me to business uncapped (which is awesome BTW) until next week when they will have sorted everything out, if it stays this decent until than will just upgrade. Cost is R999 inc line rental.

Good to hear. Their business uncapped is solid. I used afrihost business uncapped for a little over a month and it's got nothing on the cybersmart equivalent.

So far it is brilliant! So at the moment very happy with Cybersmart again :P

That's how they catch everyone that complains. Move them to the business package. They offer people a home uncapped product that doesn't even get close to the advertised speeds. If you dig around the forum, there's a mammoth thread about Cybersmart and why people should avoid them like the plague. I'm talking from experience. You could pay the premium price of a business uncapped, when you really shouldn't have to, or you can move ISP's. When I left them, I went to MWEB, and had no issues, even up to the point when I cancelled, because Telkom offered a better deal. Cybersmart blamed everything on my line, to my router, etc. etc. changed ISP's, and all problems were non existent. Been with Telkom for a while now, and no issues at all. I'm on a 4MB Uncapped. Can't comment on P2P, but if you want to find out more info, visit the Telkom Uncapped thread.

I'm not saying other ISP's don't have issues, but I haven't come across another with as much issues as Cybersmart. Just my 2cents. Use it, don't use it.

You can take your pick of anyone of the Afrihost, Mweb, Axxess or Openweb threads and you'll find plenty bitching. Six of the one half a dozen of the other IMHO.

This is true. No ISP is without issue. All ISPs at one stage or another will try to cut a corner here or there. Cybersmart (my first ISP) was quite literally the worst ISP I have ever been with (before uncapped even). They seem to have a problem of running out of bandwidth a few times a year. Axxess used to be good. Afrihost is semi ok (used them recently at work). Telkom is ok when it's good, hell when it is bad (like right now). MWEB is a new four letter word filed under expletives. Openweb has it's own set of quirks (accounts going bad but the best "shaping" rule).

It's tough to find the one that works best for you. Your chosen ISP will fail you at some point in the future.
