Hi

I just did an online application on the cybersmart website a week back before reading anything on this forum,:( and this forum certainly has some good information. I seem a bit skeptical about them, judging by the numerous complaints i have encountered on the forums about speeds being slow and internet being unusable from 7pm to 11pm at night.

Could somebody answer these questions for me

I just signed up with the one price adsl package,

Firstly i need to know, whether these one price adsl package is subjected to a 24 month contract (i hope i didnt sign my life up the devil there)?

Secondly is these accounts unshaped (as stated by the website)? i highly doubt that it, because other isps are more expensive for shaped accounts?

Thirdly, will this 384k line, be usable for p2p and online gaming and not be throttled? or should i go for a higher line speed instead...?

Thanks in advance..

I have the 4096kbps line and it's awesome!!! But I've been using a Voda 3G and prior to that Iburst and there is no comparison what so ever, DSL line is far superior.

I'm not a gammer so I can't help you with that but the pings are between 400-700ms if that helps, should be quite adequate for gaming yes?

I'm afraid I don't use limewire or bit torrent either so can't help you there either but I don't think you should have any problems with p2p on a DSL line with Cybersmart...

Cybersmart connections are fine - no difference between that and any other.
However, their "rules" and "T&Cs" are a put-off (the very fact you are worried about that says a lot).

Cybersmart is fine, no problems from my side.
I also have the one price 384k adsl and download at full speeds all the time ( 40kbps ) p2p, news server ect. even between 7 - 11 pm:cool:
I also have the giggy bank 3gig option, which is nice.:D I now have a 5 gig cap this month.

enjoy the cheapest 384k adsl around:)

I don't know about a contract for the one-price ADSL, but I doubt it. I have a 384k line and pay on a month-to-month basis.

I don't know much about P2P, but the 384k line is fine for gaming. I play Guildwars on my PC and a number of titles on my PS3. The in-game voice chat works reasonably well too - although it does seem to get a bit muddled with overseas players.

Wow thanks, for the quick replies, i feel much relieved now.... :)

Just one more question, the router they supply me with, (mecer something), I heard some guys complaining about that being a piece of junk.

What will the advantages be if i a get (lets says) a Netgear DG834G ADSL 2+ Wireless/Lan router modem over that mecer? i know wireless is an advantage, but is there any speed differences? stability wise?

You obviously don't use cybersmart if you make a statement like that

It's impossible to use the news server. You are talking a load of rubbish and you know it. THE NEWS SERVER DOESN'T WORK ON CYBERSMART ACCOUNTS. I write this in capital letters cause I said it so many times. Ask Laurie himself. He is like a staff there. He created the nightrider if im not mistaken and he told me its impossible. Please don't say it works if it doesn't its so impossible!

News servers can work on Cybersmart accounts, the problem seems to be with their one-price combined offerings.

Still, for R20/month price difference you can always get yourself some prepaid local if you really need to. Yes they 'allow' you to use different isps, just don't bother their helpdesk if you have issues with it.

As for the router. Speed is fine, it probably won't last as long though.

The latency on SAIX game servers are slightly higher (about 80-100ms on a bad day, about 40ms higher) than normal SAIX accounts.

I'm using their nightrider option (R25) at the moment which is AWESOME. Just wish I could schedule all my updates to happen during that time as well, but it allows me to download 5gig international for the price of 1gig. AWESOME. If you buy an extra 3 gigs for 185 and add the 25, that's R210 for 15 gigs of international, that's cheaper than most local offerings!

I downloaded the Diablo 3 movies over international torrents without even worrying about my cap :)

ok, so the stuff i downloaded thus far is imaginary blocks of none bytes then:confused: i'm now using virtual software in virtual space that does not exist. LOL
go have another beer and relax:D

WCoetzee,

What connection are you running exactly? Just using cybersmart for ISP, or for you ADSL circuit as well? And what domain is it? @oneprice.cybersmart.co.za?

As far as I could tell from the guy at support, My account cannot be changed from @oneprice.

Thanks

Im chilled it won't last long! They getting completely independent. Oneprice account with cybersmart can't use the news server nor can they be renamed cause all the extra services(capextender, flexicap,Nightrider ect) is made for the oneprice accounts. So they are reluctant to change the username. The reason why cybersmart oneprice accounts are slow cause of the offerings like capextender and nightrider that only works on the oneprice package so it get a lot of traffic :(

ok so the one price adsl accounts cant connect to the news server (or theres a 50 50 chance anyway), but do they shape protocols such as p2p ?

I have a 384 3gb data account with them, and haven't had any problems.I also get full speed on downloads, I'm not sure about the p2p as I don't make use of it.

As for the T&C it doesn't affect me. I use three different ISP accounts, they only reason for them stating that you should not use another isp is because many users call Cybersmart support if they have problems relating with the other isp's. As for using their email account, I have setup gmail to download the mail and I receive it with me other mail. The reason for Cybersmart wanting you to use their email account is because they send the accounts there and according to them, its so users can't say that they didn't receive the account.

I cancelled my Cybersmart account a while back. Their service was fine, but the fact that your account is fixed to 1 line is crap, if Telkom changes your port, they need to reset etc.

Also could not d/l nada from news servers, and torrents were shaped like crazy.
