I am waiting for my 192K line connection from TELKOM (been weeks now), and I was searching around for a good ISP to go with this ADSL line. A number of posts have given some idea about different ISP, but was particularly ineterested in cybersmarts offer.
Their recent update on their website, gives these costs
3Gig cap on 192Kb circuits costs: R100 per month
3Gig cap on 384Kb circuits costs: R145 per month
3Gig cap on 512Kb circuits costs: R195 per month
3Gig cap on 1024Kb circuits costs: R219 per month

So I pay R270 for the ADSL 192K TELKOM line and then buy 3Gig cap on 192 circuit for R100=R370? This sound too good to be true?
TELKOM ISP for a 2Gig cap costs R199
Webafrica 3Gig cap for R199
OpenWeb 3Gig around R209 ( i think)

Why is cyberspace's offer almost 50% cheaper?
Am I missing something?
Also does it come with a FREE dial-up service?
What service does it use: SAIX or IS? or both? ====Got this: it is SAIX
Do they hardcap? What happens when capped before month end? Do we top-up, or do we get local connection for free (at least up to some amount of Gigs??)

Many thanks for help. I apologize if this has been tackled before (my search did not get what I was looking for). Please point me to the right place if necessary. [Edit: this thread has many of my questions answered: http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=40748&page=2&highlight=cybersmart ]

its true, 3 gig hardcapped per month, if you go over, the extra stuff you use is subtracted from your next months usage.
No free dialup that i'm aware of.. they use SAIX.
They're cheap cause they bring you a no frills package and apparently they're also running at a loss (maybe trying to build a customer base now that they can keep in the future when prices drop?)
After you're capped you only have access to the cybersmart site, topup packages cost
3 Gig Top up on 192/64 Kbs Circuit = R165.00
3 Gig Top up 384/128 Kbs Circuit = R198.00
3 Gig Top up 512/256 Kbs Circuit = R235.00
3 Gig Top up 1024/256 Kbs Circuit = R255.00

oh and cause all the 192k lines become 384k from 1st August their 384k price drops down to R125 per month (could be R130) and 192k is phased out

Thanks for the reply. So, say I use up all the 3Gigs before monthend, and continue to use the next months 3Gigs (say I use all 3Gigs) (i.e. use up both consequetive months quota) what happens then?

If this is true, then what is the value of top up?

Thanks

You can't - your connection gets resetted every 12 hours, or once every hour when you get close to your cap.

Since you can only download about 1GB in 12 hours on a 192k line, you'd never be able to get more than 4GB's usage in a month. And even to do that you'd have to plan extremely well and time your bandwidth usage perfectly.

In short - using an extra 3GB's won't be possible without "topping up".

Be sure to read there terms and conditions carefully, there are a few things in there that you may not like.

yeah, like you cant use any other isp once you sign up to a cybersmart account and you only can use the account on one location.

Yes, I am following the discussion on another similar thread, and have started to learn more about the ISP. Currently, I do not intend to use more than 1 ISP ata time, and also do not expect to be connecting from anywhere else tahn my home. But, yes, thanks for the alert.
