Cycling

I'll genuinely be surprised if there aren't a few more breakaway attempts today.
Fingers crossed. Race damn you! Rest later :p

Peloton stretched out in a long single line now so at least it's not all fun and games like last time.

There's relatively few chances for the pure sprinters this year, a break wont make it on any of those stages.

Doesn't change the fact that the couple of flat/sprint stages have been incredibly boring so far except for the sprints/finish.
No different to the usual boring first week of the tour, right?

This year has at least mixed it up and had us riveted between the boring parts?

Nope usually I don't find the first week boring at all because usually there are breakaways on these stages.

I prefer the big mountains to start sometime in or closer to week 2. This year's format doesn't really work for me. Flat stages aren't supposed to be "rest" days in week 1.

Today is def better than the previous sprint stage though :)

Philipsen the one to beat.

Potato/potato I guess. I doubt many of us mere mortals would even last during a flat stage this year. Remember, you gotta go through hell to get there first. And then there's the finale. I recommend listening to Caleb Ewan on Bobby and Jens podcast for some insight into how a sprint stage works.

I was watching the daily highlights yesterday, and thought to myself. If the professionals are cycling up the steep inclines at 18 -20 km/h, what would I be doing if I was there? 8 -10km/h?

Good prediction. He's definitely a smart rider. I thought he closed the door on Girmay and not sure who the other rider was on the left. He keeps looking left and right and switches lanes to prevent any competition.
He does have a great lead out man in van der Poel.

Personally I don't think Cavendish would have won a stage this year but still sucks to end up not finishing his last Tour.

Hehe my money's still on Pogacar. Vingegaard starting to struggle just that little bit but still 2 weeks to go. Pogacar now 17 seconds behind.

Sucks for Jorgenson up this old volcano :(

Anyone know what the times up the climb were for Jonas and Tadej?

I see Sepp Kuss did 16:40.

I'm just interested cause the two started the climb almost 16 minutes behind the break and halved that gap by the finish. That speed differential is immense.

(Mientjies did a 17:09 and still lost 2 minutes at so to the yellow and white)

I think I'd still be trying to finish.
