Hi all,

Just got back from samsung care centre, and be told my galaxy s5300 is now officially out of warrenty,

now the fun begins,
I want to mod it or at the very least root it,

Ive modded sony ericsson before, but never an android phone, not even rooting, so Im a little bit cautions on what may or may not happen.

first off what ROMS are recommended for this phone? saw a kit-kat/jelly-bean one on youtube, but don't know if its any good?

this phone has a very slow processor and RAM and Im looking for a ROM or mod that uses the most of its limited CPU power, and is the most stable
(unless its possible to safely overclock it). many on XDA developers recommend cyogenmod for the galaxy s3,s4,s5 wondering if its possible on this one as well.

anybody else modded, overclocked, rooted this phone before? what would you guys recommend as a start for modifications?
and any pointers can you guys give me on somebody who is starting out with rooting? what is important to backup first?

From my personal experience, the best option with the S5300 is to root but keep the stock rom. None of the custom roms I tried were 100% stable, though some did allow overclocking, swap, etc. Make sure you have 'usb debugging' enable and a copy of the stock rom from sammobile.com - then get 'Root App Delete' and delete any/all apps you do not require.

You may want to experiment with a few custom roms though, your experience may vary...

thanks, did try one, cyanogenmod-kitkat experience,

so far so good, my problems so far:
FM radio not working though, and a strange green fill every time you rotate the screen.
also the digital clock on the homescreen says "problem loading widget"
is there a later version that I can try?

really liking the amount of customization you can get, and how well put together the music player is (much better than stock)
and how stable it is compared to the stock ROM I had that kept crashing constantly, and no VODACOM boot animation, worth the price of admission though.
(I use MTN).

what else can I try that's similar to this one? any members made their own ones? what are the most updated ones on XDA dev?
