Hi guys, I'm just posting this in case someone else is having similar problems.

Some exchanges in Bloemfontein are having connectivity issues with D-Link routers.

We have quite a few clients using the D-Link 2750u ADSL router who are experiencing the exact same issue since Thursday 07 May 2015.

The ADSL connection stays active (dialed in) but about every two minutes there is no data throughput.

Telkom support center our local Telkom branch confirmed that the issue is only with D-Link routers, only on some exchanges, and they have no idea why this is happening.

Because they don't know what is causing the problem, they recommend all customers experiencing the issue to buy a different brand router (on their own account of course).

I've got a similar issue. My internet would go off randomly at times, especially when i play games online, everything on the router will be on and all ok, yet there is no internet connection for a few minutes and then it seems to come right by itself.
Also using D-link 2750u

Check the DNS settings. It might be that the Support username was hacked and some dodgy DNS settings added. There is a thread somewhere on MyBB explaining it.

I can't believe this is a router issue. The D-Link uses a common Broadcom chipset that is used by several other modems. The D-Link's wireless performance is not as good as the Netgear but on the ADSL side they should perform similarly. It could be a firmware incompatibility but that that's unlikely and from the sound of things it can only be a change made by Telkom that introduced this incompatibility.

What boggles my mind is how can Telkom advise their clients to get different routers when they are the ones supplying these routers?:wtf:

I think a fundamental rule that should be taught from an early age is that correlation doesn't mean causation. This fundamental rule is often neglected to the detriment of the human race.

Go here for a possible solution: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...connects-router-needs-to-be-turned-off-and-on

What goes beyond me is how Telkom can chalk this up to be my (the consumers') issue.
This is the router they supplied me with.

As a software developer, when my website doesn't function because Chrome had an update, I can't force my users to downgrade their browser (much less if they had to pay for it) to run my site.

Does anyone know if anyone know of any fixes or at least some info regarding what Telkom is doing, if anything to resolve this?

[SOLUTION]

I have found a solution to this problem.
I made a basic console app that pings google every 2 seconds.

It seems the issue is that the connection gets suspended whenever the there isn't a constant back and forth between the router and a device.

I've been running this for about 2 days with no issues what so ever.

Hope this helps someone!
