Trying to get a D-Link DIR-300 Wireless Router to work with Iburst Desktop Modem... Been thru all the threads regarding DNS & MTU changes... Skype & GoogleTalk work MSN not... Internet have "limited" access and not able to receive or sent any emails via my own domain...

Help would be appreciated..

Morning all.

Quick correction. The standard MTU size for iBurst is 1392.

Should you be using your PC for VPN purposes please set your MTU to 1364.

Cheers

Shaun

Um, what??! When the hell did THAT happen?? My memory is strongly asserting the standard (non-VPN) MTU is 1352, something for which it finds plenty of support right here! (GOOG) ..yet, the iBurst page here reads
Networking
You can network your iBurst modem, but ensure you do this via a broadband router with a MTU setting of 1364 (VPN usage) or 1392.
- what gives??? I have way, WAY too many routers out there (that belong to other people) that are set to 1352 that I don't really want to have to change.

So, is it REALLY this (New! ..improved???) 1392 figure, or is all still well with the world and it's really 1352 and that was just a typo?

Thanks for all the replies, but my situation is still the same...

I either have a dud router, or something else is way wrong..

I've even tried various DNS Addresses with DNS relay enabled & disabled no difference.. :-(

Anyone out there using a DIR-300, I need to speak to U ASAP..

While you're waiting, have you tried this from another angle: USB to your (desktop/notebook?) machine? If it works OK there then you can at least remove the possibility of a dud modem/inaccessible account from your list.

Normal USB connection to Iburst modem works 100% if connected directly to either laptop or desktop.

The D-Link Support sorted my problem, the Update on the web is not the latest update... They sent me an update and all & everything is working...

If you using a DIR-300 make sure your Firmware Version : 1.04 , Wed 05 Mar 2008

Utilizing an MTU of 1392 / 1352 / 1364 - will not allow you to connect to MSN and the like; when connecting to several towers in the Cape Town region!

D Link DIR 300 - MTU Setting

just wondering, when you go onto the D Link site where you can edit your router settings, where abouts is the MTU part of it all. I cant seem to find it anywhere, and its really starting to annoy me.

Usually under the ADSL settings called "ADSL" or "WAN". Its normally at the bottom. The wizard doesn't usually show it.
