Hi There

I have the Dlink 2750U, and i must say, that apart from its looks, there isn't anything great about this modem. The wireless hangs every now and then, if we using ethernet and wireless simultaneously, it drops the internet connection, and has to be rebooted. I am running the latest firmware on the modem, and this is my second modem from them since january. I looked at the manual for the d-link overseas, and their firmware has far more options than ours. Why do we always get downgraded rubbish here. I thought D-link were good routers, but im changing my mind very quickly.

Now that my rant is over, does anybody know if you can install DD-WRT on this D-link, i also have a mecer wireless modem which id like to try put DD-Wrt onto. Any help is greatly appreciated.

i disagree --- i have the same router - runnnig one pc over wireless and one connected directly via ethernet.
also 5 mobile device connected wirelessly at any time and hasnt dropped the connection once. havent tested the 3g as yet though. no lags no hanging nothing - works as a router should - and for the price its great.

Don't get me wrong, I would love if it i had no hassles with my modem. Like i said i bought it the end of January, and this is the second one i have already because the other was faulty too. Maybe i got a bad batch or something. This is my first D-Link experience and it hasn't been a good one so far, that's all I'm saying. And I'm running the latest firmware.

It is also my second unit in less than a month and I have endless problems with it dropping the line. I have a friend who'se unit is working. When I went for a swop out there were six others that were swopped out the previous day. I am using it for routing now and another older model that only has one port working for the internet part...then it works

Dammit, i was thinking of getting one of these, probably the best ADSL Wifi router for the price (ITO capabilities). But I'm hearing alot of negative comments....

Say it as you see it .Thanks i was also considering buying one

Piece of crap

I can't agree more. Dlink will NEVER see me again. Wat a waist of money!!

DD-WRT website does not list this model so I guess you can't install it...

I also wanted to buy this but now I think not.

I can second that. Have had two of these modems and the wireless disconnects often.

Chingatchkook,

I have both the D-Link 2750U and TP-Link TD-W8960N. At the moment the TP-Link TD-W8960N is lying in the cupboard. I cannot sort out the problems related to the unstable internet connection, so I am using the D-Link with absolute no problems at all - works brilliantly!

The TP-Link went back and was tested in the lab for a few days and came back with no errors on the report...

I bought this device last week Wednesday aiming to replace my aged Mega 100 wr Telkom router. The set up was easy enough, but now whenever it is used I get connection problems every 10-20 mins. Some times when the connection dose not drop, there is HUGE latencies on web pages, Like 3000ms ping on google(normaly 10-20 on my line) Then the pings drops down again. This is painful for me as I like to play online games(like dota) where I will be disconnected 1 to 3 times in one game. Do you guys feel that I should swap it out for a new one, or change router completely?

Hi Hatter, have you updated the firmware in the device?

I think you should first contact their support in Pretoria
http://www.d-link.co.za/corporate/contact/

They were very good in helping me troubleshoot a half-bridge issue I had concerning settings about 6 months ago.
If they can't sort you out over the phone, and it is their modem that's at fault, I'm sure they'll be the first to admit it & let you know to take it in for a replacement.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this router/modem? (D-LINK DSL-2750U)

Im considering getting it but this thread doesn't sound very positive.

I'm using one with no hassles have been for a few years, I run everything off wireless though so I can't comment on the wireless/ethernet issue in the OP.

After the firmware updates it is performing better. It is ok for the money.

I am happy to use it as it is as it only feeds my switch for the rest of the network and the wifi for the rest is decent.
