Hi

As per the subject, I have recently acquired a D-link Modem and Asus Router. I come from a background of all-in-one Wireless router modems.

I am having trouble getting DDNS to work. I have a warning message on the Asus DDNS configuration screen that states;

"This router may be in the multiple-NAT environment and DDNS service cannot work in this environment."

I suspect this is due to both the modem and the router running DHCP (or I could be talking through my backside - my network knowledge is just enough to be a danger to myself and people around me).

What would be the best configuration to run this hardware - particularly to get DDNS working?

Dumbed down instructions would be appreciated if possible or even just a link. I am struggling getting decent instructions via Google as it appears most of the modern world does not use ADSL modems anymore.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

You have to set up the 2500u to be in bridge mode. Then you have to set the asus to dial a pppoe connection to the 2500u. This requires the 2500u to be connected into the wan port of the asus. That is the short hand answer :) If you need me to elaborate let me know plz.

Thanks Fafa - let me give it a bash (I am 'fiddling' remotely - so keeping my fingers crossed I do not kill the connection). Thanks for the help. Will drop a PM if things go 'wonky'.

@Fafa

I don't think I am going to manage this without killing the connection. Will hang on until I can get to the premises. I would like to make sure I understand the procedure correctly;

1. Set the DSL2500U to bridge mode

D-link Setup Page
- Advanced Setup
- WAN
- Edit (I currently have a working pppoe service). VPI - 8. VCI - 35. Service Category "UBR without PCR". Enable QoS - unchecked.
- Next
- Connection Type - change from "PPPoE" to "Bridging"? Encapsulation mode "LLC/SNAP-Bridging"
- Next
- Enable Bridge Service - checked? Service Name "ISP"
- Save & Reboot.

2. Setting Asus to dial PPPoE

Asus Setup Page
- WAN. Basic Config. Wan Connection Type. Change from "Automatic IP" to "PPPoE"?
- Account Setting. Enter ISP username and Password
- Apply

Will this work?

Sorry for the long post - but I want to get my head around on what I need to do later (I do not want to risk losing the connection right now).

Figured the step-by-step could maybe benefit other members with the same question somewhere down the line.

I don't think I am going to manage this without killing the connection. It will most definitely kill your connection, so you will have to be on the premises. Will hang on until I can get to the premises. I would like to make sure I understand the procedure correctly;

- Next
- Connection Type - change from "PPPoE" to "Bridging"? Encapsulation mode "LLC/SNAP-Bridging"
- Next
- Enable Bridge Service - checked? Service Name "ISP" The service name is not important. It can be anything.
- Save & Reboot.

2. Setting Asus to dial PPPoE

Asus Setup Page Ensure that the 2500u cable is plugged into the WAN port of the asus router.
- WAN. Basic Config. Wan Connection Type. Change from "Automatic IP" to "PPPoE"?
- Account Setting. Enter ISP username and Password
- Apply

Will this work?

Everything you said is correct. Take note I added notes in your quote.

Much appreciated - I will do a follow-up/sitrep- post once I have done all of the above.

Fafa you biscuit! Works like a brick ****house. Owe you a beer. Cheers for the help.
