D-Link G225

Seems fine, what exactly does he want to know, if it's any good?

D-Link is good
VDSL is good
Gigabit WAN is good

Basically just how this router performs. He will be having VDSL, and looks like he might be lucky as they might get Fibre. He doesnt want to open it just yet, if there are recommendations of maybe a better router.

His budget isnt much though, between R1000 and R1500. He picked up this router at Telkom for a grand.

Does he really need a new modem right now, or at the very least does it have to be VDSL, because if he gets fibre he will more than likely get a modem as part of the package, then he can use the money he saved now to get a nice AC router to compliment the fibre.

Other than that I see nothing wrong with this modem and D-Link is usually pretty solid, in all honesty if your line is good pretty much any modem is going to be solid.

There really isn't that much competition in that price bracket, it's pretty much this one, Zyxel and TP-Link.

Thanks pal. He decided to just keep the router. He says its working well, but would like to know, where on the Dlink router, does he go to set the DNS bit. He would like to manually input it, but cant seem to find it in the menus

Anybody able to indicate, in this menu, where to go to change the DNS? Those with DLink routers

Don't get me wrong, I've always been a ASUS fan, especially your motherboards but he can buy three of the D-Links for the price of the one in your screenshot.
Pretty much this...

Asus is nice, UI is nice, but price is not for me unfortunately. Some of the cheaper routers is pretty stable right now for me.

Its a pity Asus cannot sort out pricing, because then i wont mind one of their better routers. But R2000 and up is a bit steep.

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. Not all brands get it.

Sorry for trolling your thread.

Here is a challenge Asus rep dude. How about supplying me one of your Asus routers. Can be of the cheaper ones as well. You did troll my thread, so how about it? :)

What do you think Soul Assassin?
