D-Link to ship 200Mbps Powerline network kit

I'm no electricity expert but from what I understand Yes.

BUT ....I was told you need to make sure the plug points are all on the same circuit breaker. Apparently older houses often have their plug points split over 2 circuit breakers and thus it separates the "LAN's" and therefore you're not able to create a circuit/network connection between the 2.
 
In theory, yes. Personally I would only use it to connect two points in the house. I'm also not so sure about the purity of our power. Our power also fluctuates, so don't know how that would influence the device.
 
Also for each point you wan to take the network to you need to get an adapter.

And they are not reasonably priced IMHO yet.
 
good solution for a problem like having a HTPC in the lounge and not wanting to run a Cable... better than wireless...

the problem is if you live in flats you share your cabling with everyone else.. and in a neighbourhood you might share with your neighbours..

What is the price around 800 bucks?
 
Problem is last time i checked the price per device was kinda expensive so it was not gud in that respect compared to wireless.. then again there are somethings that are improbable to do with wireless like going thru a concrete floor etc so using this u could bridge the gap :) at a decent speed too

hhmmm... i was hoping that it could work even if on different circuit breakers..
 
the prices on these things will come down ... like everything else technology wise.
 
I have been researching this technology for use in my home for over a month now.

I was initially going to use the Netgear equipment. Although it states 100MBps throughput the highest it actually achieved on anyone's test is 54MBps.

Anyways this new D-Link equipment should be interesting.

My only worry with all this is the electrical noise??? Does anyone know if these devices make any noise??? I have been warned by multiple people about this. I just cant find any information on it?
 
I also looked into this recently, but found the costs prohibitive. The units currently available in SA (85Mbs) come in at around R800 per device. You need a minimum of two. Also saw a 10MBs device for around R400 per unit.

Also reviews I have read are not particularly favourable, with attained speeds very much below the marketing claims.
