When do you think Nikon will announce a replacement for the D90 ?

I bought the D3000 last year, even though I really wanted the D90. Now my mother (no less), wants to make me an offer for the D3000 since her P&S just sucks at taking wildlife pictures.

Is it worth still getting the D90 now, or better to wait for the replacement (possibly due this year) ?

Seems like guesses range from this month to August/September, prior to Photokina.
I'm not holding my breath... looks to me like the camera companies have slowed down the new releases waiting for the recovery to take hold.
Anyway, a lot will depend on a new sensor - but my guess is that the D300s sensor will be used.

If it's always better to wait for the next version, you'll never buy anything. Unless the replacement is officially imminent, there's no reason not to get the D90. It's not horribly lacking in any way, and it's image quality is very good.

Im also holding back on buying a D90 - seems like all indicators point to around October...

D90 seems to have fallen quite a bit behind Canon in the video department, so I'd say it depends how important that is for you.

I've got a D90 with the 18-200mm lens and love it.

Me too :)

As for video I've never even tried it. Paranoid about dust on sensor and using video just holds the shutter open the whole time...

Are you thinking you be popping the lens on and off while shooting video?

I was at Johannesburg Airport yesterday and CAPI electronics were sellng the D90 with 18-55 non-VR lens for R8999. It was very tempting. Even if the D90 is replaced this year, it will probably be 2 to 3 K more expensive.
(They also had the D3000 with 18-55 VR lens for R4499 and they give two-year warranty on their electronics).

No, but as I said I'm paranoid. I figure most of the dust that comes in when the lens is off is going to be in front of the shutter so I'd rather it kinda stays there...

And the D90 won't stop taking good pictures when its replacement is launched.

True. If you get a D90 now and practice with it until it's replacement comes out it will most likely take better pictures :p

You do know that there's this wild glass panel flying about in there every time you hit the shutter, causing the air to swirl around and the dust to go all directions, do you? It's called the mirror...

The D90 has sensor cleaning, I don't think you have too much to worry about.
