DA admits receiving Kebble Donations

The hypocrisy of the DA astounds me. They were so quick to make a big deal of the ANC and ANCYL receiving money from Kebble. :mad:
 
Ya, all politicians will at some point let you down. Never make any politian out to be hero, because in all likelyhood, they will at some point be exposed as corrupt

Why must all things be led by people non European ? Is that not a racist assumption? Opposition exists because things are wrong. In a non-racial society I think it is very inept to ask for all leaders to be non-European – that is in its basics a racist statement and assumption. So drop your puns – it is defeating the entire object of the discussion. Why must every discussion end up with a racist comment by the very people that hypocritically hate racism? It seems some people cannot survive or function without racism being part of their lives. Move on please.

Kebble donated money across all parties to keep his base so called hypocrisy free. Common trick of party players. The proof of the pudding is to see what he got in return.

So the DA admitted the donation – receipt given – so what? If there were a underhanded request part and parcel on the donation then my alarm bells would start ringing.
 
I don't think kilo39 meant that with an racial undertones, I think he meant that it would be more benefecial to the party if they showed the country that they were willing to be more representative of the general population in terms of race and gender. IMO the party would be far more effective opposition to the ANC if they took that route - it doesn't necessarily mean that having somebody of a different skin colour in your party would influence what the party stands for.
 
Oh grow up those who want to make a big deal about this.

Remember, the ANC has taken donations from not only Kebble, but Telkom too. Yes that's right folks, your Telkom bill goes towards funding the ANC. Gives one a nice warm and fuzzy feeling, right? And not to mention the lovely little PetroSA deal that the ANC have so skillfully swept under the carpet..... (more taxpayer money funding the ANC).

I feel very sorry for the DA. They don't receive the majority of their funding from outside SA, like the ANC do. They have to rely on funding from SMMEs mainly. The DA's budget is a FRACTION of what the ANC gets......yes, a FRACTION. So bloody what if they took a bit from Kebble on the side. No it's not right, but c'mon, no need to single the DA out because of it. After all we know the ANC did the same thing. All I'm saying is that if you feel the need to criticise the DA (and you should), then be sure to pick the log out of your own political party's eye first. (And no I am not a little DA lapdog by any means).

The issue of political funding in SA is something that we are nowhere near to resolving. The DA and ANC have been forcefully opposed to any kind of measures that would make the whole thing more transparent.

Another day in politics. Whoever said SA politics was boring? :D

As for the "DA's a white male dominated party" thing - I asked a DA MP about 2 years ago why it was that the DA leadership was so white. He replied that that is who DA party members vote for. Democracy's a real beeeacth sometimes, aint it?

And sadly this makes the majority of people simply ignore them.
 
Debbie2: IMO it would be in their best interests to be more representative of the general population, without compromising what they stand for. Afterall people vote for people who they can relate to, and in the end it's the populations votes that count. If they continue down this road then they'll never be an effective opposition to the ANC, which is a sad thing really.

DA Kebble furore heats up

Cape Town - The revelation that the official opposition DA allegedly received a donation from slain businessman Brett Kebble points to the need for serious reform in the party political funding regime in South Africa, says Independent Democrats (ID) MP Lance Greyling.

He was reacting to a Sunday Times report that the DA had received R2m from Kebble - but Business Day reported DA's James Selfe as saying that the party received R125 000 in January 2001, a further R125 000 in December 2001 and R250 000 in February 2004.

Greyling said it was "intriguing" that the DA had managed to change its mind about the funding within hours - from when Selfe, the party's chair of the federal council, said that he was "not aware" of funding, as reported in the Sunday Times, to now being aware of some funding - amounting to R500 000.
