I saw an advert while watching earl last night and it was an afrikaans oldish man talking about how great the DA are.

Now i wonder to myself how on earth the DA will get anywhere using an old afrikaans man in their advertising?

Yep , boggles my mind when we never see many black faces with Helen Zille. The thing is, her head is screwed on right, ito making 'a better life for all', but the masses generally want to see their own somewhere in there.

I've seen plenty of adverts on SABC with the black woman in a township praising the DA for things like running water and electricity. I think they have adverts that are run to suite all demographics, but at different times and different stations.

Think they are trying to spread the message to all South Africans. You will see they have an ad in English, then another in Afrikaans and then some more in Xhosa etc..

Although ads with an old Afrikaans man may not get them anywhere, at least they are diverse in their advertising.

If they left out a group of South Africans i'm sure people would be complaining too.

This is exactly what I was going to say! Looks like you just had a bit more enthusiasm about finding the video links though ;-)

Also remember ads are placed into "slots" that target certain "crowds" or viewers. ;)

Well its much better than the ANC ad with old Zuma babbling about some crap about why we should vote for ANC - their ad is only in English.

Well being in english makes sense to me.

A white afrkaaner pushing your party makes no sense though. Regardless of how many other ads were made a white afrikaaner is a total and complete marketing nightmare when you are trying to win an election in this country i would imagine

/agrees

they should have used someone in their 20s to make the ad

The DA (or any other opposition party for that matter) should take the ANC voter head-on. Most ANC voters WANT to vote for the ANC, so when times are crap for them, they abstain from voting completely. A opposition party will formulate campaigning to win over that type of voter.
Same goes for gullible voters who got duped into believing their grants/government pensions will be taken away of they vote against the ANC, etc.

Obviously they want the old white Afrikaners to vote for them too. Duh!

Yup and that is why we will be stuck with the anc for good. We don't have another party capable of pulling in the black vote.

Exactly, so what do you do when people don't want to vote? You send out an advert with an Afrikaans male as your lead to get the black vote. It's the only way to do it without a doubt.

Also understand that the DA is trying to get its existing base to vote. Wards have been won by the DA when nearly all of its members have voted when they are a minority. This is how the DA is winning ward for ward. Most of the opposition voters have the attitude of "why must I bother to vote as my party is going to win!" and that is what the DA bargins on.

Maybe the DA should launch a radio campaign on the PBS stations to educate the 'masses'. Just a simple campaign dispelling the misconceptions about grants/pensions coming from the ANC. The campaign can also tackle the issue of service delivery by explaining that people must vote against the ANC as a form of protest. Worst case scenario is it jolts the ANC out of their arrogant sleep & everyone wins.

Exactly. The ANC prays on the ignorance and desperation of the masses to gather votes. I mean, saying that people will go to heaven or that Mandela will stay alive if they vote ANC - surely that should constitute false-advertising?

It would be false advertising only if such statements were made in advertisements.

Except the predominantly black channels have a black woman as the lead in the DA adverts?

White Afrikaner = white vote
Black woman = black vote

I would imagine a black face would come across better than a white face considering our past but perhaps i am just stuck in the past :D and all has been forgotten.

Combining the colour of the rainbow is better than separating it unless they are afraid the minority will vote for the anc if they try reach out using a black face.
