Cape Town - The Democratic Alliance (DA) has hailed Cosatu's call on its affiliate the South African Democratic Teachers' Union (Sadtu) not to take up a stake in Telkom.
DA communications spokesperson Dene Smuts, noted the union had been included among the beneficiaries of the Elephant Consortium which had acquired 6.67% Telkom and said this was an attempt to make the enrichment of Andile Ngcaba "appear broad-based".

Despite all evidence to the contrary, there is absolutely no truth in the rumour that I work as a policy-maker for the DA. Nor, for that matter, COSATU, SADTU, ANC, SACP or any other capitalised abbreviatedly-named organisation you can think of... And, in case anyone might think this excludes organisations with non-abbreviated names, the same applies to Elephant, Telkom, Sentech, etc. ...

glad to hear it but the burning question remains - who do you work for?

the DA supporting Cosatu - heavens to betsy telkom issues seem to gather the strangest bedfellows under the covers. Wonder if they would support the nationalisation call :)

Probably not, nationalisation is probably not a good idea anyway, it'd frighten off a lot foreign investment and just think how poorly things tend to be done by the goverment, imagine if they had to actually deliver a service?

They won't, which would merely be further evidence of their self-interest and own agenda. I'm waiting for them to surprise me...
Much as it pains me to say this, I work for a number of employers -
Telkrap to pay my ADSL account,
SARS to pay my tax liability,
My bank to pay my overdraft and loans,
The oilco's to pay my fuel bill,
Localgov to pay for my utilities,
And so the list goes on... *sigh*

Our situation is so bad when it comes to telecomms, any potential foreign investor would probably welcome nationalisation moves. This would give them the comfort of knowing that positive steps are being taken by Government to assure the safety of their investments and to actually grow the market, if nationalisation is accompanied by that which I've proposed in another thread.
