The DA has called for a referendum to be conducted on the Gauteng e-toll project, saying that, by its calculations, a 10-14 cent fuel levy would cover all costs.

I have not a single doubt that we have already been paying for the tolls in all the fuel levy increases over the last two years.

Why exploit one revenue mechanism when you can do two?

The reality is that these idiots in government have started realising that the money is finite. The only way around this apparent obstacle is to get (steal) more. Clearly just taking more from the public is the way to solve this "finite money" issue...

But that was for their bonuses and retirement "schemes" ... the 10-14c would be for the actual road.

Regardless, it isn't going to happen. ANC/Government have too many hidden agendas, kickbacks and schemes attached to open road e-tolling that they're not going to listen to anyone. Referendum would have only one outcome. They wouldn't risk this.

E-tolling will only go when the ANC goes. And no sooner. Regretfully.
