Cape Town city councillor Wilma Brady of the DA has been fined R5 000 for misrepresenting the council in giving a property developer the go-ahead to build 33 houses on provincial land in Delft.

But the ANC on Wednesday slammed the committee's decision, labelling it a "whitewash".The party would be pursuing criminal charges against Brady, the ANC said.

"This is nothing more than a slap on the wrist. It also sets a very bad example and sends a signal to councillors that they can break the Code of Conduct for Municipal Councillors and get away with it," Skwatsha said.

"The claim in mitigation that councillor Brady did not benefit personally ignores the fact she misled ordinary people in the process, and reiterates the point that the DA misuses housing as a political tool to dispense patronage and divide communities on racial grounds."

Dividing on racial grounds by awarding a contract to a Black company. Very odd. But thats the ANCs favourite game, play the race card. Poor me, my ANC buddy didn't get a backhander so we'll be pursuing criminal charges.

And oh how the richness continues. This is because of some misrepresentation with regards to housing, right? Read on: 31 000 civil servants are currently under investigation by the SIU for possible fraud and corruption relating to how they acquired low cost houses.

I kind of think that's the point we're trying to make is that it isn't acknowledged. And why are YOU now making it about race, we were making it about the differences between the ANC and DA (playing the race card isn't making an issue about race, its an issue about ANC excuses). Besides, the comments made by the ANC already made it an issue.

Nice edit there I'm simply trying to say that there should be transparency regardless of what political party is making the accusation, the fact that the ANC makes more mishaps than the DA is something I acknowledge completely. It just seems that there is more of a fanfare when it's the latter in default.

Yes, but there are checks and balances to ensure the party in power (which incidently are the Democrats, with a Republican puppet president) does not abuse its position.

This current government in South Africa believes that everything is their God-given right and they are above the law. In the US, presidents have been brought in front of impeachment trials; here the man who intends to be the next president thinks that his constitutional rights are being infringed upon. After all, he is above the law why should it apply to him?

Thats what we're questioning. We're not celebrating the abuse of power, but have to ask why, when 31 000 civil servants are under investigation, the ANC chooses to rather focus on one DA councillor.
