we effectively have a one-party state in SA and voters that don't think before voting - if they did then some other political party would have been elected.

That's why I want Zuma for president. Maybe he can brake the party into two. :D

Best effort crap aside, !CASA's ADSL Regulations state that Telkodemonopolies is required to provide an SLA with ADSL.

What does the ANC use for its data lines?

smoke signals - never fails !

 how can any political party, that is not the ANC, provide effective opposition, when the ANC has such a majority in parliament? - we effectively have a one-party state in SA and voters that don't think before voting - if they did then some other political party would have been elected.

Agreed.

As if there is is just one broadband provider in SA. I mean, why wait for Neotel - they could have iBurst, Sentech, MTN or Vodacom as backup internet access portals. I am not commenting on the reliability or quality of these services, but the risk management of a medium to large organisation that relies on internet connectivity should always have alternative connections, esp if they think they can rely on Telkom.

Sad. Nothing will change. Telkom is a little sharper in the service department, but not enough to warrant their murderously high prices.

NeeTel is laying fibre optic cable in several city areas, it might be an idea if the DA sends a smoke signal in NeeTel's direction asking that fibre that is supposed to be competing against Telkodemonopolies' Digicrap.

Agreed. I never want to see a Telkom bill again in my life. I hope that 99% of Telkoms hostages, sorry, customers, sign up with the competition when it arrives. Then we'll see Telkom collapse in a spectacular heap and it will be a good day in SA.

They mentioned their Broadband connection was off.

Either way I'm not defending Telkom, I know how they work, I am questioning the risk management of the DA's IT department if those connections are used for mission critical activities.

A diginet line with a high level SLA is by far the best (costly too) option, however if you have mission critical activities running off the lines then cost is justified.

Broadband is defined as > 256KB? If so, a diginet line @256 or greater is "broadband".
Or do I miss something?

Technically you're right, however "broadband" is typically associated with ADSL. One other way to differentiate between the two is that ADSL is asynchronous (sp?) whereas diginet is synchronous.

No. Broadband is defined as the slowest speed available from Telscum adsl.

Recently saw a TV program about a guy who figures his company can stream TV over an 800kbps *narrowband* connection.
