Daggers drawn as Telkom meets

--At an Exco meeting on July 14 2008, September instructed that the company had to meet financial targets in order for the bonus pay-out to happen. "The CEO gave instructions for the reduction of quality of services to achieve the financial targets."

--An meeting on October 30 resolved that services should be degraded to save costs so the company could meet its EBIDTDA target.
If this turns out to be true the company will be badly hurt. This does not look good for September...

IIRC, September was Chief Technical Officer, or something like that. One would imagine that his aim in that position was technical excellence at all levels. If these allegations in the memo are correct he has become just another greedy bean counter. It didn't take long, and that is the most disappointing aspect.

Now you know why their service basically sucked all along...

This is sad news indeed... degrading QoS in order to get a bonus.

If I was able to, I'd fire him for that... that is just plain greed.

Sounds just like the corporate culture!
The excuse that they have to pay ludicrous bonus's to keep staff does not wash any more. Jobs are being lost due to the world recession. There are lots of able people out there who have recently been retrenched and are looking for a job. This is a great time to clean out. Executives should take pay reductions. They should be happy to be able to keep their job, not demand ridiculous remuneration packages.

+1

Very good point :)

I feel like I want to get all excited that September may land up in hot water and get fired.
But that will only leave the door open for yet another money grubbing fool to come in and rip us off...
They should just break the damn company up into smaller pieces, forcing them to deliver services, be profitable and DELIVER SERVICES IN JOU MOER IN REUBEN!
How the fsck do you degrede QoS?
It's already been terrible and he still gives the go ahead. (allegedly)

Lay the Smackdown on him!

qos i'd imagine would be easy to degrade.

Less call center staff means higher profits whilst inconveniencing the customer.
Less admin staff to work means lower payroll costs.
Less techies means lower costs but also shoddier work as the techies that are left are overburdened and usually take very long to get to the faults.

*******.

you mean for February.....

Lame I know couldnt resist ;)

I suppose Telkom is probably not the only company cutting cost. I suppose the claims and counter claims are all part of the politics. Seems battle lines are drawn will be an interesting February for September :D

See i did it again

why not cut 75% of the staff at Telkom Media, would have no impact what so ever on their operations - or cut back on their stupid ads

“His role had become extremely divisive and counter-productive to the progressive functioning of Telkom going forward,” a Telkom statement said

since when has telkom ever been progressive at going forward?? there still stuck in 1996

True

If that memo is true...... And if the board is not going to be lead around with fancy foot work from the execs, this has the potential to hit the tv news. But I am not too optimistic that much good will come from it for us.... the consumers

they always get away with almost eveything..probably have good spin doctors:mad:

September has done nothing to improve Telkom. This allegations sound just up his street. Telkom should be getting ready to welcome their new CEO, and Telkom shareholders will get just what they deserve - another monemental waste of time and money.

Telkom is to ICT what Zimbabwe is to good governance.

September has done nothing to improve Telkom...

I though their plans to outsource their operations so that they could streamline and focus on customer service was a good one. It's a pity the unions are strong enough in South Africa to prevent Telkom from making any real progress.

This does not sound good, but even if this is true, companies find amazing ways to protect their CEO's and a company like Telkom have been superb at it in the past.
