This morning a delivery truck (4 ton) Arrived at my home to do a delivery for an order I made.

The domestic helper opened the gate for the truck driver. The driver was entering the property and he knocked the driveway gate. It's a 5 meter long palisade sliding gate. I don't know whose mistake this is. Driver or domestic.

The gate came off the rails but luckily didn't fall on the ground.
They put the gate back on the track.
So now the gate is not aligned when it closes. In addition, the gate motor doesn't work any more. So he motor is on manual. I have to open and close manually.

I called the insurance company and they want an accident report number before they log a claim.
The owner of the delivery truck says I must claim damages from my insurance company. He hasn't told me if there is damage to his truck.

I'm really peed off because I am almost finished with doing up my home to how I want it and now I have to sort out this problem before I go on leave in two weeks. Add to that, the additional cost I may have to fork out to fix this mess.

Go report to SAPS get case number. Submit to insurance stating damage presumably caused by such and such.
They must, if insured correctly, settle your damage and sort out with such and such.
Simple.
Rather in future work through a broker.

IMHO the owner of the delivery truck should be claiming from his insurance.

He is making his problem yours ...

Yeah I also feel your insurance shouldn't be involved at all.

This should be their problem directly. Talk to the company who owns the truck.

I just went to Sandton saps and file the case. The client offices where really good with this.
Then called up the insurance company (which happens to be one of the big 4 banks) and logged the claim.

In terms of where the fault lies, I cannot get a clear statement from my domestic helper.
And when I spoke to the owner of the truck this morning , he gave his drivers version of the story.
Will the two stories ever line up, I don't think so. Reality is that every time I pick up the key to go somewhere, I remember that I have to manually open this monster sized gate.

Funny thing is that this morning when I logged the claim with insurance company there was no request for an AR number.

I guess all of this is going to increase my premiums.
