I came home around 6pm.
switched on the pc and what i noticed is that the monitor displays a no signal,Ok i restart and the same thing nothing.
hdd's dont load.what?
Now i am furious,as i check all the point checks i can find on the mobo.
Unplugged everything and checked ide cables(this is now 2 hours into the damn pc.It was 8:30pm when i saw that one ide cable is broken at 2 places, its such a small cut,i had to use a torch to see it properly,I then changed cables and still the same problem the monitor shows no signal message.

Now this is getting to me,So i open the monotor and check the relay,Its fine,ok back to the pc.
Its 11pm,and i dont know what to do........facket.

SOLUTION FOUND.
I swoped the ide cables on the motherboard and reset cmos
magically it worked,
THePROBLEM:
well what can i say the vista lost all the hdd drivers magically while i was at work.
So wtf .

It's Eskoms fault. My pc loses a whole day's time lately, it used to be a few hours previously. It's definitely electricity issue ;)

Electricity, had the same problem before. My dad's PC was on a UPS though, when the UPS ran out XP died and the CMOS battery solution worked.

I've have the exact same thing at the moment. Fans spin up, no signal on screen and HDDs don't spin up. I suspect that the damage is a bit more serious than IDE cables in my case though. (I'm thinking PSU/mobo fried). Surge protection was in place lol. I'll probably only be able to inspect the PC carefully next Wednesday.

Plus I have to redo a freaking Commercial Law Exam because Eskom loadshedded the university during the exams. Not fun when the exam venue has zero windows.

Remove the CMOS battery first thing and try again.

I've seen a lot of mobos crap out solid just because of a mofo CMOS battery.
