Damn!!! S.A. is really far behind with Internet

Dude, in the UK they have had 24MB lines for well over a year...
 
i could be wrong, but isnt that 2.5gbit, as they are trying to put china/japan's 1gbit to sleep
 
small b is for bits - BIG B IS FOR BYTES. Distinguishing between gigs and megs is also of importance, as megs is 1000x the lesser of gigs.

A 16MB line would therefore be a 128Mb line. But there is no such thing in the UK. It's a 16Mb line. And a 24Mb line.

2.5 Gigabit. Terabit is the unit most major telecoms companies use to indicate the capacity of their entire network.
 
lol, im sure he meant mb not gb. Max transfer speed for a hd is only 3gb per second anyway

Just thinking, this does sound a bit wierd though, seeming over network we usually only have 1Gbps
 
Telkom and the SNO do indeed have to pull up their socks.. and indeed 16Gbps is all over - although it's not for consumers, but for voice and data carriers. The fastest connections at the moment are the 2.5Gbps fibre connections in France, and the 1Gbps fibre connections in Hong Kong. Sweden has 100Mbps at the moment.

But 16GB/s (as opposed to 16Gbps) would be the entire bandwidth of the SAT-3 cable.. so they were possibly talking about 16Mbps. If not then I'm moving!! :)
 
Your hard drive would be a bottleneck though, you can still make a plan though :)
 
its 16gbs, and ur PC would be the bottleneck, not just the hd ;/
 
If you had 8 WD raptor 150GB 10000 rpm Hard disks in RAID 0, they wouldn't be a bottleneck :)
 
in HK they cap int speeds to 20mbps whilst local gets 100mbps. I read this somewhere on wikipedia. They make it sound like it's so devastating.
