Somewhere far far away.
Next week is pay day... Yipeeee after this long January month and it marks the aniversary of my 1 month struggle with Telkom to get my line sorted out.
Constant loosing of sync, 4mb line running at 640k/512k for most of the time.

Loggin about 7 fault with Telkom. 5 faults closed without any sight of Telkom, having Telkom at my place 3times (twice in 1 fault if you can believe that..)
Line still faulty and they just sms my now to say it fixed now.
I would have ranted more, but most of my anger is now gone after for allmost 2 hours not being able to even get on the internet, cause of line dropping about every 2 - 3 minutes then taking forever to sync again.

SNR allmost permanently 4 - 6db
Attenuation 45 - 52

Last year for most of the year my line was stable as hell.
I had these stats most of last year
SNR 14 - 19db
Attenuation 35 - 42

Now have constant noise of line and some time no dial tone even..

I am at a lost with Telkom, anyone got any suggestions?? Should I take a shotgun or big a$$ truck to one of those green / blue boxes near my house so they have to replace it or even better yet chop down the telkom pole in the back of my yard????:twisted::mad::sick::twisted::mad::wtf::twisted:

Dude I'm in exactly the same spot as you are. Line was fine last year until late December then started having sync issues... I have spent hours just now on the phone with telkom. I'm now trying to at least get credit for the time the line has had problems which is almost a month now. Had people come over more than three times...Logged more than eight faults which they keep on closing. They don't give a damn.

Also had major problems with Telkom last year. The Public Protector should place the company under provisional management seeing as it is operating an essential service but failing to to adhere to basic levels of customer care.

Who can be investigated by the Public Protector?

Government at any level. This includes national, provincial and local government;
Any person(s) performing a public function. This includes anyone performing any official duty which affects all, or part of the people of South Africa, for example a government employee, such as an electoral officer;
Public entities such as the SABC, Eskom and Telkom; and
Statutory councils, for example the Human Sciences Research Council and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research.

Cc: a complaint to them.

Lolz maybe my router is now borked... :(

This is strange since i started having problems:
1) I bought a new filter - not helped at all..
2) Tested router next door - Modem never gave problems in the 4 - 5 hours i tested it.
3) After the 1st time Telkom came there and closed the call I teste telephone next door seemed fine, no noise.

Now after all this I decided to try something else went plugged my router next door again, but this time pick up their phone.. and guess what?? The noise on my line came with my router next door. : (

Anyways long story short without my router plugged in, my phone line is as clear as day again.. Foooooooook now to get new router again.

Try a new filer before a new router - you do have a filter connected between your incoming line and your phone, don't you?

like I said before I have allready bought a new filter, as yes I know where to plug what... the thing is I tested the router about 2 weeks back at the people next door, in the about 4 - 5 hours that I tested it, I never had any problems with it dropping the line.. the only thing I did not do that time is to pick up their phone while testing the modem, cause it seemed fine.. The noise only my line only seemed to get worse after telkom has been here and left the box on the pole half way open, so did not make much of testing the modem for a second time.. But now when I tested the modem for a 2nd time next door. I decided for the heck of it to just pick up their phone and see..

Holy focking hell.. TELKOM SUCKS!!!!!!!. The whole of today, no dial tone anymore.. Bought new router, cause suspecting current modem to be fooked.. So now new router stays connected, but highest speed i'm getting is only 1mb connection.. Can't even log new fault cause line is dead : (

It's nice that we all can come and rant on a public forum, but have some respect for readers that have to put up with your dilemma.
A more suitable title for example and choice of words. Very few people are Telkom fans and probably agree with you, but if this is how you deal with problems I don't blame them (Telkom).

you can send them an sms, takes 1-2 hours(or at least thats what happened with me) they then call you back on your cell. Can't remember the number though. Can find it tomorrow.

i have the exact same problem, my line goes down every 3-15 mins and antleast 30x a day for the past month since mid december 2010.
i just got off the phone with telscum and the guy says there is some static on my line but ofcourse was of little help. logged a fault and techie should be out here soon I HOPE!!!

he nicely explained that i will be charged a call out fee if it not telscums problem....IT IS THERE PROBLEM RIGHT???
ALSO since they so eager to charge a call out fee for wasting the techies time...is it not fair that they pay us for wasting our time with these constant disconnects??

i often battle to download a pdf, its so annoying and frustrating!!!! im on 384 line

I had the same thing. They told me it was my router and to please contact the manufacturer. I went and bought a Telkom branded router from a Telkom store. They then said it was my ISP. I signed up for Telkom broadband. Now it was their router, their line and their ISP. 2 Weeks later my problems were over and I could go back to my router and ISP. Mid December they upgraded (or attempted to) me to 10 mb...all my problems returned. I phoned and begged and pleaded to just put me back to 4096. Once they finally did that, everything returned to normal.

well i am with telkom, their router, telkom isp, their line and i have this problem lol. i just hope i can get it fixed so that i can download files larger than 10MB

I am also with telkom, their line, their isp and their router and I also only sync at 1Mbps and my line also has to resync atleast 10 times a day. This isn't any good, how will I play my online games. Your account gets banned if you disconnect to much.

/me thinks its something to do with all the rain we are having. Most poles and sdc's are not very well insulated against water. The enclosure on my pole is rusted and open til i climbed up and closed it the other day. It looks bad up there. Although i am just about the only person using that pole.
