Is it just me or is Darkspore one of the buggiest major title games ever released? I mean get kicked, randomly removed from parties, crashes at least once a day and now I'm on a map with a mate and my hero didn't load. Camera is fixed, all 3 heroes full health but he just isn't there. Its really starting to get on my nerves. Does anyone else have problems with Darkspore?

EDIT
And their chat system...I mean come on, you can't say anything. it even blocked "doesn't let", how is that profanity?

I'm with DCBloodHound on this one: major release? What gave you that idea?

Played the beta, it was boring as hell.

Well Darkspore is based on Spore . So unless you don't think Spore was a major release, then Darkspore sure is a major release (and if you don't know what Spore is, then i rest my case) . It is made by Maxis (the same company who did Spore).

It is basically an action-RPG like Diablo, but in space. That said, the metacritic reviews looks pretty poor, so the game certainly have issues....

So far it seems to have managed around 20,000 sales. Assuming we believe those figures, if you consider that to be a major release then I'm stumped.

Regardless, general consensus on Darkspore has largely been, "Who cares?" so no, I don't consider it a major release. The damage to the "Spore franchise" was already done by Spore and Darkspore is nothing more than flogging a dead horse.

Major Release does not imply "major sales". If Diablo released and had 20k sales, is that a major release or not? To put it another way, go to Steam right now, you will see Darkspore on their banner of releases. They usually don't put "random" unknown games on there.

Their banner of releases? Hydrophobia is there, can't say I've ever heard of that one.

So, basically you're saying that because it's advertised, it's a major release? BTGames' site has it as their background too, although I don't know how much credibility that holds, I think the week before they had Patrician IV. You've probably noticed that most releases get advertised at release, that doesn't make it a "major title/release."

Major titles generally have some kind of hype or excitement around them, a huge expected fanbase that jumps for joy. Darkspore kinda doesn't have that. Like I said, it's very much an, "Oh? Yeah, don't really care" title.

I personally feel that EA didn't even really warrant it worth much marketing effort to even begin with. First I heard of it was about two or three months ago and then only because I tend to skim through the BTGames/Take2 upcoming releases. There has been very little hype surrounding Darkspore and the beta did a marvellous job of squashing what few illusions of success anyone had left for this game. The sales figures in the US just confirm that.

haha okay the term major release aside, there seems to be alot of bugs in this game. The latest one is incorrect loading. I tried loading 5-1 and it loaded 5-4, I thought beta testing was supposed to iron out bugs? Not worth spending money on this game just yet, rather wait for a patch in the near future. Though history does show that games usually come off worse when a patch is released...

Ok i'll put it another way then , it is considered a AAA title, not an indie title, not some arcade mobile title. And yes there wasn't alot of hype, primarily because Spore itself was a little lackluster [hence why most people don't care]. It doesn't mean it's not considered a relatively big name title. I think what the OP tried to say "this is a AAA title and look at all the bugs!" . If it was an indie title then you'd be less prone to complain about the bugs and just roll with it.

As for Hydrophonia , it's an Indie/Arcade title and Steam always promotes at least one indie title [Braid,Trine,Torchlight et al] on there.

See, I would've expected EA to go all-out in promoting this one and in preventing major bugs exactly because of the issues with Spore.

Unfortunately I still have to disagree... I don't see Darkspore as a AAA title. Darkspore is not a high-profile title. It's "just" another EA-Maxis game. There's nothing fancy-shmancy about it, nothing "revolutionary" it's just... a game and apparently not a particularly good one either.

Steam is also promoting Section 8: Prejudice and Mount & Blade. Not really AAA titles either, methinks, although Mount & Blade does rock socks. They're just due to be released, therefore they're being advertised.

I'll grant you that Darkspore is developed by Maxis and published by EA, so you'd expect it to be a AAA title, a major release and all the good stuff that goes with that, however, is there anything about it that makes it even remotely special? It's pretty weaksauce whichever way you look at it.

Actually reminds me a bit of SimCity: Societies although, hell, at least that had some hype :o

These days buggy AAA releases are the norm.

"Everyone has the internet so we'll just patch any bugs later on." - Every game developer

ok girls! Lets rephrase the OP to make you all mildly happier, less b1tchy, and more on-topic:

"For a game that was developed by Maxis, of Sim and Spore fame, and published by Electronic Arts - one of the largest video game publishers on the planet - is it not surprising that the sheer quantity of bugs that I have encountered in this game, far surpasses my expectations, which are based on all the other games I've ever purchased?"

Discuss. Focus on "I agree" or "Actually no" answers, and if you possess the abilitiy to maintain focus for any longer than this, feel free to support your statements with relevent information too.

Actually, no. Did you play Spore? :p

of course - it was a "major release" :D It wasnt as bad as it sounds like Darkspore is, which is slightly offputting because until the comments by the OP I was considering getting it too!

I can settle this major and non major release for ya ;)
