Dashboard Cameras

it's just like using the phone gps function to navigate, you set up everything before you drive, and you take the phone with you when you done, it doesn't feel that difficult...

Its not difficult but you WILL forget to do it. it also becomes a hassle when you're in a rush to go somewhere, so you don't start it up and then that's the day you need the footage.

The idea is that you want to forget about the Camera - If you just pop down to the Garage you won't start the camera, then you needed it.

It should auto start and stop and the day you need it, it was recording and you can pull the card to get the footage.

This. i check my camera once every 2 weeks, to make sure its still recording fine.

Have anyone tried those dash cam apps? Since most modern smart phones already have the capabilities of a dash cam, the recording capacity that might be a concern on some phones, but I don't see why it wouldn't work?

You’ll get closeups of your crotch every time you reply to a WhatsApp.

Think I will get the A119 PRO - You keen? Also got a thread going on Carbonite

Possibly but I would like to know how the process will work. I am keen on the A119 v2. I see that depending where you click on the webpage, it id either $109 with GPS or $89 with GPS. Have you seen these vids comparing the A119pro against original A119 v2.

I do personally feel that the captured video of the pro is slightly darker though.

Have you bought one yet? valiente Magandroid

I'm keen on something, was considering the Garmin45 but have noted the preference for capacitor power over battery power.

My car doesn't sit in the sun much, but I can still appreciate how LiPo etc batteries will ***-off in our climate.

What's the warranty on a battery like? Or best to just bite the bullet and go capacitor?

Late last year I upgraded to the mini 0906, which is capacitor-based. So far no issues in two cars. They've survived a Karoo summer.
If it survives the Karoo, I'm good ;)
My only issue with the 0906 is the lack of WiFi to download the videos.

What brand? Veckle or Blueskysea?
The WiFi to phone transfer feature (leave the thing plugged in) is useful...

Could I use an OTG cable otherwise, to connect it to phone and grab what I need?

No wifi download? I don't need it. Once the novelty of a dashcam wore off I stopped downloading anything. Now they're there only for record of accident.

I've grown attached to the mini design because it's compact and easily hidden behind the rvm. I set them to never switch on screen, and with no power-on bing. Once every few weeks, while driving, I pull the rvm aside to check that the power, recording and GPS lights are on, and then forget about it again.

Haven't purchased one yet but planning to hopefully in the near future. I've decided to go with the Viofo units. I think you need to do further research decide what feels best for you.

Recently bought the VIOFO A119S v2 with GPS for my wife after her previous Eagle Eye v2 died.
Very impressed, seems to work well.

I'm keen to share an order (also CPT based).

VIOFO A119S v2 looks good.

Which are you looking at?

WTF is up with these broken quotes

Battery fried?

Yes and no. I thought it was the battery as it was shutting down immediately ignition was switched off. I fitted a new battery and same thing was happening. Turns out the charging unit had packed up and was no longer charging the battery. I ditched it.

Having said that, my wife and I bought Eagle Eye v2's at the same time, May 2014.
The not charging problem on hers started in March 2017, so it went strong for almost 3 years. It took me over a year to get around to buying her a new camera (the A119S V2).

My one is still going strong, but I replaced the battery myself with one I bought from Micro Robotics in Feb 2018. So, it went for almost 4 years, no issues and in the Durban heat.

When mine eventually packs up, I'll look at the Viofo models again, they look good. I noticed yesterday there was a new firmware update for my wife's model, so at least they're working on improvements/fixes all the time.

Where are you planning on buying from?

Was initially looking at prices on Amazon but also saw prices on the Viofo website and there was a special on the A119 V2. I also want to get the GPS module, the wiring module and the extra lens. I just have not gotten to the point of ordering yet as I had ordered some other stuff that I needed.
