Dashboard Cameras

Look the Geeko has some nice feature like GPS but you have to plug in the dam aerial.

The quality on this unit is amazing I have the 32 gig card in it.
Problem is battery life aint that great but neither is Geeko.

I do like that it doesnt use a crappy charger like the Geeko.
The screen is a bit small and not very responsive on the HP
The other thing is the unit display auto swithces off - you should be able to do it yourself as I forget to turn unit off when I exit car.

For the money its an amazing unit
Also the numerous mounts that come with it make it even more amazing

If you use a car charger the unit turns off when the car is turned off.

It's not perfect but works well for the price.
 
How rugged is the camera without the waterproof cover? I'm thinking of getting one just to fool around with, and take places where you'd not want to take an expensive camera, but would want to drag the waterproof case around all over the place.

I'd be keen to use it as a dashboard cam too, but I'd be worried leaving it in the car when it's parked, and if I have to hide it away everytime you park somewhere, I'll end up never using it.

Also, what voltage is the charger?
 
The HP camera works well.
When its not in the car it gets used to record a "B" angle of stuff I blow up for fun, especially in situations where I don't want my nice Samsung camcorder to get damaged.

I also strap it to my son's kart and he laughs his ass off reflecting on his crashes
 
It's entirely possible that it cannot be made to loop. If you think about it, it creates a file on the card, and keeps adding to it. When the file fills the card, I doubt the camera has the processing power to start deleting the first bits of the clip and rewriting the file to create space to carry on recording. I suspect that you will need to delete the file and start again.

If it created a number of files of say five minutes each, it would be easy to automatically delete the oldest file to make room for then next one. But if it's a continuous video clip in one file, it's not so simple.
 
Sorry, I didn't mean to imply it was impossible, but was thinking it's an interesting problem for the programmers to solve.

It records in 3min segments. If you start recording it will loop indefinitely until you stop it. It's only when you stop and the card is full it doesn't want to start.

So basically after one drive it will fill the card then on the second drive it won't work and you can't delete the clips manually? Even if you can who wants to do that basically every drive?

You can delete manually but you are right it's a mission and who wants to do that every time?
This is the biggest failure of the unit.
 
Ever since this thread has started, I've been looking at the BlackVue Wi-Fi DR500GW-HD which goes for around R2500 from Amazon and R3500 from Laserguys.

Laserguys hasn't reduced their pricing in at least 7 months. So I think that I will be importing this model from Amazon.

It is a little expensive but it has all the features that I'm looking for.

They claim 7 hours of recording in FHD 30fps on a 16GB MicroSD and almost 14 hours on 32GB MicroSD.

So from Jozi to Durban I can record my entire Journey and view it on my phone!
