Anyone have a good suggestion for a reasonably-priced dashcam? I have a small no-name one, but quality is not great. The one tricky factor is that it needs to be slimline. My care has a steeply-raked windscreen, so most dashcams that are quite high versically, when attached will block out half my view.

You can also see if this Garmin Dash Camera Mini 2 would suit your requirements:

Thanks, that one looks nice and small.

For reference, I measured the height of my field of view. From where the windscreen meets the inside roof lining straight down to the height above the dash where I can see over the car's bonnet is 22cm. So a dashcam that hangs down 11cm, say, blocks the top half of my field of view for the size of the camera (and given a large rear-view mirror and sensor array, there's already a fair bit of the view taken up).

Shouldn't you only buy one that has a capacitor instead of a battery? (Due to the extreme temperatures in SA?)

I'm still thinking should I get a stand alone dashcam or one combined with a GPS like a Garmin 51.

I like self drive oversees holidays and normally the rentals comes with GPS so the dashcam only option will work to record my routes.

But my Garmin GPS in my car is old so it would be nice to get a new unit (incl. Dashcam).

So far I'm leaning towards this dashcam only unit.

Transcend DrivePro 250 32GB Dash Cam

Includes software to map your travels etc.

Mount it on the passenger side...

I went with the garmin mini when my 70mai died, very happy

What about the DDPai Mini3? It's received excellent reviews, and is really compact.

Or Hikvision Dashcam F6 Pro?

I have been using the Viofo A119 V3 since 2017/2018. Uses capacitors as opposed to battery. Can record up to 4K. Quality is excellent and has many features. The standard model doesn't have GPS but you can add a separate module. Can also purchase a hardwire kit should you wish to record when car is switched off. Bought locally at https://cardashcam.co.za/product/viofo-a119-v3/
They have other Viofo models as well and other brands. Haven't had any issues yet. Actually recently moved it over to my new car. Lots of international support and forums.

Does anyone have experience with HikVision dashcams? Thinking of the B1 for about R1000

I have the F6 Pro ... really good value for money in my opinion

I am also in the market for one.
Tried the U2 models on Takelot, but the footage was shockingly poor. Could not even decipher a number plate if the car was right in-front of me.
Have now ordered the Hikvision F6 Pro to see if that might be better.

For me the quality of the footage counts the most. Features comes 2nd.

I had to pull footage from the F6 last weekend. You won't be disappointed with the image/video quality. I did get a 128Gb card to ensure I can run it at highest resolution, so as not to compromise on image quality
