Data Breach

If you found a data breach for an online retailer, would you report it to the Information Regulator?

Some background: I was looking up a very weird email domain to ensure it wasn't a fake account or scammer. What came up was a certain online retailers weekly sale reports with how much the customer ordered, the customers full name, telephone numbers and emails. For every week. It was also just specific to certain search providers and not all.

I had a hard time looking up the retailers info online to let them know - ironically their own email is behind a registration wall for specific location areas only - but all the info of their sales and customers are free for anyone to see. As soon as I did email them they immediately responded and the info, although still searchable due to indexing by the search provider, the actual reports are locked down behind their admin portal now.

This was in minutes which they fixed it.

Would you report this to the incompetent Info Regulator which the Department of Justice doesnt even listen to?

Nah, skip that step - if you want action, go straight to the press.

You sent a link to MBB? I dont have a loadshedding or Eskom story?

Edit: Sarcasm aside, I do not wish the retailer any harm. And if MBB reported on it all that would do is make people go chase after the leak that is still indexed by the search provider

Its a consolidated collection with a lot of older leaks on it. Some new stuff too, but not entirely new. Also not full curated so lots and lots of duplicates.
