Data Bundle after upgrade?

Does anybody know the rules regarding the above?

I bought a 20gig Bundle on my voice contract in the middle of November, which then expires at the end of December. Thought for the festive season it would come in handy wathcing lots of Youtube on the beach!

I processed an upgrade on my account, which took effect the 1st December.

....and guess what? No more data bundle of the upgrade?

Does one just lose this, or what't the story?
