Data Bundle Expiry Date

Yep, that is correct, I don't like it, but that is how MTN and then Vodacom released "data rollover" into the wild.
MTN's PPDB expire 60 days from date of purchase.

MTN also use your oldest bundle first, if you have multiple bundles loaded.

This has been the case since the introduction of rollover.

Will take your word for it, but I vaguely remember reading that MTN's rollover is also "up to 60 days" as opposed to 'valid for exactly 60 days including the date of purchase'.

Good to know that MTN depletes the oldest bundle first - that is how it should be.

Their T&Cs do state:
PayAsYouGo data bundles are not evergreen. Data bundles remain active for up to 60 days from the day of purchase.
They don't elaborate on what the "up to" means, but when you check your bundle balance you can see the expiry date and it is 60 days from date of purchase.

I'm probably not alone in being confused: I understood from other threads here that MTN's prepaid bundles are 'up to 60 days' because, according to one person posting and sounding highly authoritative, MTN's billing cycle starts on the 17th of the month -- therefore you will only get the full 60 days if you buy a new bundle on or after that date.

The inference there is that if you buy one on, say, the 16th of the month, you will in fact only get a month and a day validity! True or false?

The billing cycle might be a factor for contract bundles, I don't know.

Not in my experience, see here.

I contacted Vodacom again, asking why the expiry date is not 28th of Feb 2010, and the reply SMS I got states:

Well, I hope it will be before Feb 1 2010...:wtf:

Please elaborate on the cause of the problem, and whether the problem has been escalated internally within Vodacom to ensure that all affected customers have their data bundle expiry dates fixed, as well as when that might happen.

Also had the same problem: Purchased a data bundle on the 21st of January, expiry date said 1st of February.

Resolved: PMed VodacomData, response:
