Data issue on MTN Iphone

Hi,

Here's hoping someone could assist with my frustrating issue.

I have a iPhone that was purchased on a Vodacom contract, and now using it on a MTN simcard.
Voice and sms is working fine but for some reason I cant get the data services working.
I have tried all the various MTN APN settings and also had 1555 technical guys refresh my GPRS service on the MTN Live system but all with no success of getting the data service working.

I know the issue is not with the phone because it works fine with other simcards.

The only option I havent tried is reactivating/restoring it via iTunes as the phone was originally activated with a Vodacom Simcard.

Any advise will be appreciated.
 
VC IPHONES come with a different APN configured.. What APN is your phone configured for?
 
I have tried all the MTN apn's with user names and passwords and without...
Now i get data only when in GPRS areas and 3g areas whee there is no HSDPA.... its very wierd...

Um, I stand to be corrected, but I know that some iPhones are provider locked. Could this be the case with you iPhone, since it was on Vodacom? However, I would suspect that if it was provider locked, then voice and SMS shouldn't be working either.

If you are out of warranty, then you could try Jail Breaking your iPhone, incase it does have to do with some strange provider locking.

Have you connected your iPhone to iTunes since moved to MTN? I know that from time to time iTunes downloads new carrier settings. Perhaps those setting include the data information?

Thanks, I will try the Itunes thingy... Doubt it is locked as i mentioned that it was a VC phone when I spoke to the MTN 1555 guys...

When I do the Itunes thingy it only wants to do the upgrade to 4.3.3 and that is 700meg...

Is there a way to reactivate the phone on itunes with a MTN simcard or is the activasion once off?
 
Hmm, I think the only re-activating on iTunes you can do is your Apple ID.

Have you tried using the following APN : iphone.vodacom.za?

Also if u know someone with an MTN iPhone that you can check their APN settings and use the same..

Jailbreaking does not void your warranty.. Just follow a proper guide and all will be fine

Everything else is blank.
