I see this package available for R39 pm incl 5mb data and 22c per SMS.... Under calls though it is all marked 'N/A'. What I would like to know is - can one receive incoming calls with this package (outgoing is obviously not on)

Thanks V3G. There is however a difference between the normal Messenger and the Data Messenger. I think the data messenger is a new package - it also includes 5mb data on it and it costs R4 more than the normal messenger contract. With messenger you can make outgoing calls (expensive) but data messenger you cannot, hence my question re incoming calls - I see with data messenger the voice mail access is also marked N/A. Reason for my question is to get either messenger or data messenger for Nokia PT-6 (yes I got one eventually from a very helpful MTN agent - the Vodashops just were not interested in helping me) - I need to be able to phone it and listen in to the surrounding area and the 5mb data will help with the MMS's it sends else I will have to get Messenger and a data bundle.

Sorry, missed the difference!

I believe you're right in that you cannot do telephony on this package.

Also, I'm suspect you won't use you data bundle for MMS's as they're billed as separate entities @ 80c / MMS

Might be a better option to go for the messenger with bundle option.

Have you managed to set up the camera? I battled a bit but eventually got it done via a million SMS's!

V3G, does it cost 80c an mms? I tested it a while ago on my sister's phone (yes, i am still on a non-mms phone!) and it didn't show any cost. I had assumed this was because I had sent about 180 characters, and that the data used wasn't enough to deduct a cent.

Bleh, if I am wrong, then that really sucks - mmses should be billed as data!

Cheers, Nick

Did you perhaps test it last December or this January ?
I noticed the same "phenomenon" back then (i.e: no charge) and only afterwards I found out that vodacom had a promotion thingy going on of ten free MMS ;)
Since that has ended it's certainly charging me about 80c...
and yea that does kind of suck..

It might have been the 10 free MMS promotion that threw you. We did try and tell all subs about the free MMS's but got flamed into oblivion for spamming......

SMS and MMS's are counted and charges as distinct messages and are therefore not charged on a per-byte basis like normal data. MMS pricing was recently dropped to be in line with SMS and we've seen a massive increase in MMS traffic.

Yeh, you right, the normal messenger would be better - forgot about the per message charge for MMS (They should also have MMS bundles in this regard - great for holidays)
I have not got the camera yet - they have ordered it and should have it by the weekend.
WRT setting up, you can d/load the PC software and do all your programming via Bluetooth (much clearer as you do not work in codes) or you can download the symbian software for symbian phone directly from the camera via bluetooth. This then gives you a graphical interface for all commands to the camera via the phone and it will send SMS's automatically based on your choices.
Currently don't have a symbian phone but intend to get one for my end March upgrade (I miss all the software available on the Net).

I take exception to not being told about the promotion via SMS - maybe have an option under your account settings to enable or disable VC offers etc.

Hi is there someone who can tell me more about messenger value. What do you get with the package?
