An interesting new retail store concept launched in Cape Town recently.

They're called Data Stores and these retails stores ONLY focus on anything to do with Vodacom's Data Services including GPRS/EDGE/3G/HSDPA, Blackberry, etc.

These guys focus only on the supply and support of Vodacom data orientated products. You can take your system in and they'll get it working for you, for example.

The first one opened in Tygervalley a while ago, and the second one opens up in Canal Walk today, around 1pm.

I just popped into the Canal Walk one and it's all very upmarket. You get to sit in a fancy leather chair while you get proper coffee and someone sorts out your problem!

Note, these don't belong to Vodacom and are not the same as Vodacom's Walk-in centers, rather they belong to one of the retail chains.

But it's nice to see the retail sector seeing the need for a dedicated data service and responding to it.

Data Store: Tyger Valley is on: 021-914-9743
Data Store: Canal Walk is on: 021-555-3799

What a great idea, and well done to them! Thinking out of the box...

What if you didn't get the blackberry/3G card from them? Will they still help and if so, is there a fee involved?

The current model is to help anyone with anything data related. You can even wheel your PC in a trolley into the shop, and they'll look at it.

Good, I can go and work for them. I always have to sort out everyones problems. Now I can finally get some payment for it. :D

What's new

I have been doing this in a retail store for years. Problem is SA customers want everything for free and I am not a technician........
I even had to work on a MTN one this week. I wonder where he bought it as I am yet to see his money.
